Hammer, GB1, can either of you speak to AD concerns about his character? I mean is he the kind of guy we'd WANT on the team or are there red flags about the kind of thing that led to disruption, a la Roper, allegedly?

which brings me to the negative. he has always seemed like a "look at me" kind of kid. he's the same dude who made noise by starting a website and posting all of his scholarship offer letters from schools on it! so when he was offered by cal....it was on the site. oregon...same thing. all in all i think he posted more than thirty of these letters from coaches on this site which was pretty tasteless in my opinion.

he also was the kid that transferred high schools several times. i know not all situations are the same but when kids do this it at least warrants some attention. many times it is a case of a kid feeling he is owed more than the coach is giving him. in his case he transferred to a school that didn't even have a football team so he could basically pick where he wanted to go. again...nothing wrong with that but sometimes it shows the characcter of a person and occasionally a sense of entitlement.
All this says is he is a competitor, wants to be a leader, and wants to win. This debate is stupid. If Roper had off the field problems that had nothing to do with success on the field. The fact that he couldn't scramble, throw accurately, and read routes was the problem. Forcier does not and will not have these problems.

Oh and to hedge your shody leader arguments. Leaders can come from any position doesn't have to be quarterback, there is a lot of qbs on winning teams that are not vocal.

can i assume you didn't mean to quote me because nowhere in my post did i meantion shody leadership, roper, forciers ability to scramble, throw accurately, read routes, or being vocal..... :?

sorry I wanted to highlight the two arguments you make as support for the first premise. The rest is addressed to this 9 page thread of bad arguments.

first, just because i know all the replies that i'll get for being a cat fan let me say that if you landed a guy like forcier (which i think you are going to) he'd fit in the system i think you're trying to run. he's a playmaker plain as that. if he wasn't he wouldn't have been offered scholarships just about everywhere...

which brings me to the negative. he has always seemed like a "look at me" kind of kid. he's the same dude who made noise by starting a website and posting all of his scholarship offer letters from schools on it! so when he was offered by cal....it was on the site. oregon...same thing. all in all i think he posted more than thirty of these letters from coaches on this site which was pretty tasteless in my opinion.

i admit i'm also basing my thoughts on him and the fact that he comes from a line of brothers who couldn't seem to get along with their coaches and ended up transferring. combine that with the fact that his grades suffered this year and he got sent home from their bowl game and i would certainly think that there are character issues involved.

all that said...sometimes a change of scenery is all you need. and as cheesey as it sounds sometimes the beauty of montana just has a way of mellowing people out and giving them some perspective. the griz are a strong program in a great community in a beautiful state. your fan support is key and there is no reason to think that if he comes to montana he can't be successful on the field for sure....and hopefully off of it.

This is a pretty damn good post imo. I found out a long time ago that unless you are privvy to ALL the information, then one is likely going to have unanswered questions.

The way I view this thing is Forcier lost his spot to an incredible QB, no doubt about that. It is also going to be another coaching change for the kid, and who knows what type of system Hoke is going to employ. It sounds like it will differ from Rodriguez quite a bit. So, if you are Forcier, do you not think about what your options are? If the kid does his due diligence on FCS schools and kids from them landing in the NFL , what also need a QB, then Montana has to look pretty enticing.

I have no doubt Pflugrad will talk to all the people he needs to doing his due diligence, and meeting with Forcier and his parents should give him all the information Pflu needs to make an informed decsion and set the expectation level.

All I know is this kid is the REAL DEAL. I will take one Forcier over 500 Ropers any day of the week.

i agree backer. there is no denying the talent of the kid that's for sure. as a gopher fan, and a big ten fan in general i took notice of forcier when i learned he was going to michigan. and i readily admit that i was looking for more bad than good. ;)

but the facts are he's a ridiculous talent and has never really done anything bad enough to warrant not bringing him in that i know of. sounds like he needs to work harder in class, and possibly humble himself a little. although when you are looked at as one of the best at what you do i can see how it's be easy to get a big head. that's all i was saying. he seemed cocky to me. but that will probably actually make hima better qb imo.

i'd say that with a national champion qb in levi mitchell, an up-and-coming guy in mcghee, and now forcier with the griz if it happens....that's a pretty good crew to be able to watch!

this article mentions the rumors swirling about Forcier and the Griz...

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2011/01/13/4-1-zoo-robinson-forcier-to-pitt/

there's a link to the rumor's origin in the article... you're gonna love it

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. DayDay starts a thread about the topic with admittedly no inside knowledge. It builds steam, spreads outside of griz nation, Forcier catches wind, decides to check out the program, and then Bam! Reality. I am going to start a thread about the rumors that Tony Dungy wants to become the next grizzly head coach.

I'd bet that the decision to high school shop wasn't Tate Forcier's. The fact that he would have been about 15 when those choices were made suggests he wasn't the one calling the shots. Have to wonder if he chose to post all 32 of his recruiting offers online, too.

Crap competition like that, makes me think joining the Move-over.com crowd is a good idea!

Just think how good the schools are that these guys came from. If they are that good here, imagine how good the teams are they rode the pine behind.

no denying that. i'm not pretending to have more info than i really do. just on the small samples of info i do have i'm not super-impressed with the family either. i do know that the family never moved in highschool so the school switching was solely to do with football. part of me wants to think that i'd never shop my kid around at that age....but who am i to say? it's a whole new ballgame when your kid is one of the best in the country.

as for the schollies on the net...that seemed to be his doing. i remember going to the site and he was making comments too. just rubbed me the wrong way. again, i'd like to say if he was my kid i wouldn't let him do that kind of showboating but who knows? i know there are guys out there who could play for any university in the country...and if they chose to post their hundreds of letters on the net i'd be put off just the same.

but let me clarify, all these personal feelings i've had about the guy for years doesn't mean i'm disregarding his talent...or saying he'll be a problem in missoula if he goes there. football wise i have never denied his talent and playing in the big sky he could have his way. i also am not suggesting he'd be any risk whatsoever.

found that site. always seemed weird to me but i guess it's really no different than facebook so what do i know.....

He might have commented but I think the tactical hand of a parent was probably involved. I see a string of bad choices by adults involved -- hs shopping, possible offer posting, followed by leaving high school early to enroll at Michigan winter semseter, followed by starting as a true frosh. Honestly, I don't think any of those choices are in the best interest of a teenager. It's too much, too fast and not everything is going to turn out well.
Forcier is now living with the byproducts of some of those decisions--the decisions plus an unbeleivable amount of national media attention. The kid was on the cover of SI less than two months after starting as a true frosh. He's been the subject of at least a half dozen negative rumors reported by the Big 10 sports network and ESPN and the local newspapers-- none of which turned out to be true. None of which were retracted. He also has a few bad decisions of his own to deal with, which only compounds things. I'll get into that more later, but I've been looking at this quite a bit and I don't think Forcier has been steering the ship so long that he can be the fall guy for all this bad crap.
Hopefully he's matured, but hopefully for the future of his family so have his parents. If I was his dad, I'd feel terrible about the way this has gone and I'd be working hard to help my kid get 1. a degree and 2. a fresh start.
I don't know where Forcier is going to end up, but I hope he gets a clean slate and a chance at a semi-normal college experience complete with a diploma.

Get off this kid's nuts. No one know $hit about him let him start fresh if he comes to MT. We don't know much about his dealings at Michigan. Dick Rod might just be a dick.
