Tackles

Hittin’ time

The addition of full pads for the Grizzlies’ fifth practice of fall greatly benefited the defense. The D again rushed the quarterback well, giving the offensive tackles fits especially and rushing throws from the offense. The offense improved noticeably during 7-on-7 drills — not surprisingly — with the D- and O-lines off the field.

Thiebes is a tackle. He under-performed last year, and he is starting this year? :(

Our line needs better play. Period.

Germer has not been able to get improvement...maybe last coaches were not as bad as people say and the talent DOLA is just not there. Feel sorry for skill position guys, going to be a lot of 3 and outs.

Perhaps...on the other hand, our o-line might not face a better d-line the rest of the season.

Really? Three fucking practices and there are already people ready to write off the O-line?

Unbelieveable...seriously.

I think the questions about the Oline go back much further than 3 Fall practices...

Yep. Go back to last year (I just did) and you'll find a ton of threads wondering when the OL was going to show up. They played lights out against the kitties, as I recall (What a surprise! :) ), but they never really rose above mediocre the rest of the time.

My worry is after seeing Stitt rotate a million players at other positions which i think he believes will end up finding best at each position regardless of age, experience (smart move giving backups a true shot and seems some are stepping up), nothing seems to show anyone oline wise is able to step up and take a spot from a line that is definitely struggling. So we might see the best it is going to get this year with the personnel available and that isnt looking great....and if injury strikes the next man up is shaky at best.

Last year I stated that our offensive line would suck without Poole and Schmaing, and they mostly did. Other than last year I can't remember the last time a true freshmen started. That was not a good sign. Our tackles were young and very small. I don't know what will happen this year but this isn't really the same line. Also, the same folks often complain how they want a dominate defense and then when the d-line dominates the o-line they freak out. Likewise, if the O was dominating the d-line at this point everyone would say our d is terrible.

Point is, this discussion basically happens every year, one way or the other, even in the years when we've gone to the chipper. It is possible they get spanked by our D every day this fall, face another great d line in NDSU and make big strides. It's what I expect at least.

Our Lines!

Face it, at this point in time it's waaaaay to early to blast one side or the other. The O-Line will need much more time to get into Griz Shape and play ball the way we expect them to do. Hang on for a few more weeks and watch for signs of improvement. It will come!

The D-Line is ahead at this point and will stay that way until our first game. Relax and try to enjoy the fact that our Lines are always in tough spots early in practice. Most years the D is way ahead of the O. Same this year.

No one is dead yet so stay tuned!

The way you guys are smacking the O-line makes me think of the old days when linemen played both ways. If the D- line is so damn good, work a few into the O-line!

These guys need to just keep getting better every day. We've got probably the best coach to help them do so. We may not have the perfect players for the position but I think we've got a group of guys that have worked their ass off to get this far and who are working hard to keep improving.

Keep in mind in spring ball it started shaky and improved fast, lets give it a few weeks and see how these guys progress.

Every year at this time we fans wring our hands with worry. By my nature I worry about everything. I think I understand why others are sweating our OLine. I must say I am not as concerned about our line as most. I beleive we will come out smoking and will do OK and improve as the season goes along. I am old enough to know that judging players practicing against one another can be very deceiving. We all do it and it is quite fun. Smart coaches are looking at a completely different thing. They are putting young kids in tough spots and watching how they react. The coaching staff knows our OLine is a work in progress and will get the most out of them as possible. Three weeks playing against a DLine that knows all off your moves is tough business but at the end of the day you doubting Thomas types will see a much improved line play.

In the meantime worry yourselves sick, blame Growler, Stitt or the President.....then go to the game.

I never wrote off the O-Line, I said "Our line needs better play. Period."

Christ, I am the one that you gave crap too for predicting an undefeated season.

The problem with our OLine is that they have been blocking with pillows, and they need to be blocking with sledge-hammers!
