swish tourny in helena

swish tourney in helena was an awesome tourney until they disqualified a 6TH GRADE BOYS TEAM for letting a girl play on their team. she has played with them in every tourny for 3 or 4 years, it is her only chance to play due to the fact that there is not a 6th grade girls team.

I seen that girl play a few years ago in Missoula. She was a good defender, and ball handler. At least I think it was the same girl. She was holding her own, and even better than most the boys. Either way, pure BS.

I am pretty sure the girl in Missoula is a different one, a 7th grader, who happens to be the daughter of a Grizzly coach. Great athlete, and outplays the boys a lot of the time. Probably won't get to be very big, but she is a lot of fun to watch.

update: The chamber of helena that put on the tourny are saying they were in the right to disqualify my sons team and another because they were running the the tourny under the guidelines of the MHSA and title nine. i am still trying to figure it that out!

Here is a suggestion on AAU tournaments - they are all run differently, and all have their quirks. You can argue until you are blue in the face, and you aren't going to change their minds. Just have the kids play, keep in mind that most of the refs aren't MOA refs, and have some fun. It goes by way to quickly.

Some are well run, and very well organized. There are others which are purely money-grabs by the "organizers".

Rule of thumb - if the sponsoring organization is a "Club" and not a team or a specific, well-known organization, it is probably done for the cash and not the kids.

Call me crazy.

If you are entering a team in a boys tourney, have all boys.

If you are entering a team in a girls tourney, have all girls.

It stays real simple that way. :thumb:

That's just crazy talk Loyal!!

Next thing you will want boys to be in Boys' Scouts, and girls to be in Girl Scouts???

Wonder what the reaction would be if someone showed up to a girls tournament with a couple of boys on a team. Bet that wouldn't last long.

loyal griz it is her only chance to play there isn't any 6th grade girl teams for her to play on. if there were we wouldn't be discussing it!

If that's the case, that sucks and I feel bad for her. Although I can't imagine there is not one 6th grade girls travel team in Missoula.........that would be a sad state of affairs. But as Grizpack mentioned, what would be the reaction if a boy was on a girls team because he couldn't find his own team? It would be tough luck brother............Equality wins out and it goes both ways. Frankly, some sixth grade girls are mature enough to make a major difference for a 6th grade team.

I'm not saying its fair, but life is a SOB. I would work to get more 6th grade girls involved in basketball in Missoula it sounds like to me. Either that, or she isn't well received by the others for some reason and that's Pandora's box, which I shall not open.

In the end, I see nothing wrong with the Helena Chamber making such a decision. If you don't make that decision, you set precedent you could potentially suffer from in the future.

i agree with most of what you say, but the fact is we are from dillon and numbers of students is not that of missoula.

Understood, sounds like there was confusion on both sides.
