Stitt's offense and Don Read's

Was it my imagination or did I see alot of similar things? I really liked that I didn't see any 'read option'. I view that as a great way to get your QB beat up. What you all say?

Most of the run plays were read options. Gus mostly opted to let the RB run the ball. He did have one keeper for 5-6 yards.

So... did I miss the "Fly Sweep"?

When he was hired that's all I read about

I did drink a little (okay a lot) at the tailgate but I thought I was paying attention

Yes. The big difference I noticed was NDSU did a nice job taking away our short crossing routes. Our outside receivers did most of the damage. Teams will have to provide support over the top...watch those inside crossing routes open more throughout the season. Those routes are fun to watch develop from the stands.

I haven't stopped smiling all day.

I do remember at least one play where the fly sweep looked like it was one of the options -- the camera angle was perfect to follow the guy coming across in front of the QB. And Gus may even have done a semi-fake of flipping it to him, but then the play developed elsewhere.

I know it's just one game and there were some rough edges. But who else thinks Gustafson may be one of the better ball-fake/handlers we've seen in awhile? Just a thought.

Nope did't miss it. Never was ran. that is only one of many play's Stitt runs. In fact he rarely uses it. The only reason that is why you hear about it is becuse of the 2012 Orange Bowl where Dana "Holgreson" sp? used it.

That play is easy to defend....but being in scheme designed to defending it opens up other plays....if a team quits honoring it then it will bite them. My guess won't be used much, but the threat will pay dividends

Interesting that NDSU said they gave all the same looks as they saw on film. I like the O because it is the same look but 20 different things come out of it depending on what the D gives you.

It seems like with all the motion that the fly is there anytime you want to pitch (toss, throw) it.

Brady looks....good. His deep passes were especially accurate. He had a few passes get away from him on some shorter routes, looked like some of it was timing and miscues....I'm sure those will come around. He looked really comfortable, and maybe more importantly....he was able to take a hit.

I know that its a small sample size, but if he can play like that against MSU, EWU, and ISU...he is going to be putting up some big numbers.

The 'z' WR (#5) motioned 4-5 times in the game, meshed with the RB while Gus faked a handoff, each time the Z looked back for a swing pass (yes, i watched it in slow motion).

I don't think that was a 'fly sweep' but it would have the same effect of forcing the LB to account for the wide motion and the inside run.
