Stitt copyright question?

Not that it matters to me I was just more curious than anything. I see the "STITT HAPPENS" shirts floating around and I just thought it was a little gimmick some guy near Golden that owns a t-shirt shop was drinking beer after hours and printed up a few but I see there is an actual website where you can order them. (I'm sure many of you knew this but as usual, I'm a bit out of the loop.)

What I'm curious to know is who actually owns the rights to what Stitt can and can not do to make money from his name.....and all of the sayings that go along with it? Probably wasn't a big money maker at "The Mine School" but I could see it really picking up steam here if he is successful.

Will the U of M have control over this? Maybe that's why it took so long to write up contract? <<< Kidding of course, kind of.

Forrest Gump would have been worth even more money had he written up a quick little contract on a napkin that day he stepped in it...or stepped in Stitt.

Shouldn't be long before these shirts are available in Maroon. Just a guess.

First time I've been to stitthappensdotcom. I figured the shirt creators / promoters were students or fans. Nah, Bob Stitts has his hands all over it... Hilarious. Bob, not his t-shirts.

It appears to be Trademarked, and owned by him. Ordered mine a couple of seconds after the announcement, just in case.

He really got it trademarked?? What a douche. hahaha

Huh? Sounds like a smart move if he has. Again, if he does good things here (and ultimately gets invited to an FBS program) I'm guessing that would be some pretty good pocket change if he is entitled to it.

That's what I'm uncertain about. Media appearances, commercialization and such. What the University can control and what they can't? I would assume that's all in the contract.

If there is one "Stitt Happens" item sold for every 50 "GRIZ" or "U of M" items that's still a stittload of t-shirts, sweat shirts, key chains and stickers.

If true: Welcome to the Twenty-First Century.

I have absolutely no problem with this ... and I'm well into grumpy geezer-hood. To me, this is another sign that he understands the modern society (and economy). And it's only somewhat meaningful, because I doubt that he has platoons of lawyers to send after trademark violators, like the big companies do.

Looking at it from another view: The interviews show he was never sure he would ever get a chance at a higher level. Trademarking a catchy phrase based on his name would be another way to provide better for his family ... which might have to fade into retirement without ever hitting the "big time." Plus -- realistically -- he still hasn't hit the "big time," financially, coming to UM. ;)
