STILL PISSED.......

I’m STILL PISSED........after last weeks lady Griz loss at NAU. To recap the incident Sophie Stiles hit a midrange jumper with 1 second on the clock to put the ladies up 59 to 57. Great play by Sophie under pressure. NAU calls time out and with 8/10 on the clock inbound to a lady under the basket from side court which was a great pass and was contested by a Griz player but it was a perfect pass which resulted in a score to tie the game at 59. After reviewing the play to determine time remaining the f _ _ king refs decided to award a free throw. The Griz player clearly did not foul but regardless the game should have gone into overtime. THE REFS SHOULD NOT HAVE DECIDED THE GAME BUT LET THE WOMEN DECIDE THE OUTCOME ON THE COURT. Of course the NAU player made the ft and they win by 60/59. What a demoralizing point for our ladies when clearly the refs took the game from the players and decided the outcome.

I'm miffed myself, but not sure what to say to not give myself another bad day. Did Coach H say anything? Hope the refs don't decide who wins tonight.

Game tonight at EW @ 7pm MT.

I don’t know if Brian complained or not but it would be futile if he did. Their not going to relook at the replay again. The only thing he could have done was to file a complaint with the conference. I haven’t seen anything along those lines unfortunately. It could be critical in determining seeding for the conference tournament. Of course the ladies would have had to win the overtime that being the case.
Every game here on out is critical for tournament placement.

Crapy call or not....that foul was not suddenly awarded after viewing the replay. 2 or the 3 officials could be seen calling the foul while the act of the shot occurred during the game.

Good point. Logic, reason, and a replay are all helpful!

So eGriz posters aren't 100% neutral? Who knew!

I think the issue for me, is that in a normal game situation the baseline official isn't so wide to the narrow corner. They tell you give yourself the angle to see most of the post play. She is almost nearly in the corner, and that leaves unfortunately the opposite side official in a position to have to carry the opposite side block and neither the shooter nor the defender are in a position that allows for a clear sight line to the foul. He's not out of position but he also of the three officials is in the best position to make that call, albeit from a terrible angle to see the full development of the contact.

Had the baseline official been closer or opposite side, where they are most commonly in normal play (1 low 2 high) I really doubt the sideline guy would have been tasked to make that call but in this situation to get their eyes their formation put the baseline official way too far away and looking through too many players to see contact. Because when you see it from that baseline view, that contact looks far less significant than it did and was more of a product of where the pass took the player than it was blatant contact. Maybe that is why I wouldn't have called that a foul if I were in that position, but I'm not an official anymore and I am obviously a Griz fan.

So there you have it.

Granted I’m far from being an official too but my big beef is the player did get the pass and did score which tied the game. I still don’t think it should be the officials call to decide the game and not on the court by the players. I’m also a Griz fan and would probably not have a beef if the roles had been reversed. But I’m still pissed but it’s a moot point now. I realize the officials did review the play and if it had been a blatant foul I could see their call but a foul could be called pretty much every time down the floor. I wonder what the call would be if the game was in Missoula?
But thanks for your response.
