Stats FCS poll, Eastern unranked

They are doing well right now certainly, (I'm sure as hell enjoying the back to the future experience) however, let's let the season play out and revisit the anointing then. There's always that one game in the year that's a WTF just happened game...hopefully the Griz dont have one of those this year. Hell of a fun ride so far and lots to be grateful, and excited about going forward.

Go Griz!

Probably someone that saw they took the #6 team to OT.

Yes sir, it had to be a cat voter.

To be fair.... the last time Cal Poly played a top 10 Team from Montana was in 2016, and they beat them.... also to be fair, I think the Cats are ranked higher than they should be by about 5-6 spots.

Cats benefited from beating an overranked SEMO team
fizz benefited from beating an overranked UCD team

We will see more clarity by the end of October

I'm thinking we will see more clarity about the Cats after Saturday.

A fascinating list. I have to give the pollsters (some) credit for not moving Villanova up a spot after their road win. The undefeated record looks pretty impressive. The only others are NDSU and three Ivies, who started late. Apparently, even they know that Weber’s two losses were to FBS opponents … and both by only 6 points.

With one glaring exceptions and a “predicted” exception, I did really well with my guesses. I had nine on the nose, twelve within ±1, and two within ±2. That’s 23 of 25. I’ll admit to being mildly surprised to get UC-Davis within one spot. I thought there was a chance they’d drop completely out of the top-25.

One of those ±1 could have been prevented. I broke my own rule and thought maybe the pollsters would notice the feeble record of Kennesaw State (those two NAIA wins) and nudge the Griz up a spot. Did not happen, although the Griz moved much closer.

I should have also done better on one of my two-spots-off: I guessed that Youngstown State would drop three spots after their loss to UNI, a modest fall after losing to a ranked team. But, of course, a loss to mighty Northern Iowa is no big deal … so YSU dropped only one. I really should have had that.

As I predicted, EWU dropped out. Stony Brook did not. As I said in my guesses thread, that came as no surprise, although I did not expect them to actually move up.

But with that miss, there was only one spot for an “Others” getting votes team to move up. And the pollsters totally stumped me on that one. They jumped Sam Houston State over three pretty good teams … on the basis of a win over Stephen F. Austin. :wtf: The Lumberjacks are 1-5, with one of their losses being to D-II Tarleton State. Yes, I know T-State is moving up, but C’mon!
I suddenly realized you are smarter than me.

I'm quite happy right where we are. I'd rather be the hunter than the huntee. Keep winning and it will all work out.

Oh, and FTC.

I'm with you there. It's better to stay in the shadows as long as possible. I'm also happy with the cats being overrated until the end of the season for the same reason.

Apparently STATS pollsters are not even watching games in the BSC, just voting after the scores come in. I may be wrong but I’ll say it here. Cats are are getting beat by Sac next week. Sac will be top 15 before this is over. Griz / Weber will be the conference title game. Sac will make post season. I can’t believe I posted that.

I’m more worried about sac state than Weber.

I've thought that for a long time. Hell, I'm not sure some watch games out of their only little area.

Now, I'm not saying that's true across the board, or even for most of them. But it seems like there are enough who just go by the scores posted ... and that makes the poll results highly predictable. Note to "montanaguy" above: Not smarter, just been doing it for a long time and being cynical enough to figure that many pollsters don't put a lot of effort into their voting.

This. The Griz coaching staff get to see a taped game of their opponent one week before they play them. And, no matter what people think about the Cats (they suck), they'll be a good barometer to read for the coaching staff. Sac can't hold back if they want to win that game...clarity indeed
