State AA Championship

I didn't think I'd be up for going to this game after the Griz loss earlier in the day, but I went anyway, and the basketball atmosphere there was awesome. I'd say a good 4-5,000 people there were from Butte, and they electrified the building. When the PA introduced the team, the crowd just went off, and some Butte High players were looking around at one another as if to say, "Holy shit!" The game was neck-and-neck until about the last four minutes when CMR pulled away. You could tell they were the better team but they knew it wasn't going to be easy. Ryan Bagley, a future Griz football player had a good game. Overall, a very competitive, enjoyable game. I hope UM hosts many, many more state tournaments in the future.

There was one problem though. The official attendence was 6,700 and change, and the PA announcer said it was the largest crowd for any basketball game in the renovated Adams Center. But I know for a fact that the Griz got over 7,000 for two games last year, Monte Night and Griz/Cat.

I was hopeing the Butte "UnderDogs" would win, not that I have anyting against CMR, except nostalgia for Butte. Is there any doubt, if you care about winning the state championship, that Sentinel's coach should be fired? Pathetic is the only word that comes to mind. I might be being too hard on a high school coach, but it seems like Sentinel had the best talent this year, and they lost early and often. I might be just sick of losing in Missoula, and politics or whatever, you have to win with that talent. If the coach can't handle the talent or politics or wahtever. get someoen who can.

I agree with you one hundred percent. Realisitically, Sentinel should have finished in the top three each of the last three seasons. If you look back at every season Sentinel has had under Fischer, it has been a dissapointment. It is too bad, but people expect Sentinel to underachieve. The talent pool is not as deep there anymore with Henkel and now Hasquet gone. You are right, it is time for someone else to get a chance, Fischer has had seven years and the highest he has finished is third place while playing on Saturday night at a state tournament only once. Over this same span Sentinel has had two division one players and has often been the best offensive team in the state. They just never whoed up for the games they were supposed too. For awhile I thought this year might be different, but when I saw that score from the first day of the tournament, I can't say I was to surprised.

I need to coreect myself. I said Ryan Bagley had a good game. Hardly. He had one point togo along with seven rebounds. I must have been thinking more about the CMR semi game on Friday. Not that it matters since he'll be on the football team, not hoops.
