Stadium Echoes

Hi,
Chris gave me permission to post information about our upcoming concert "Stadium Echoes" featuring the UM Grizzly Marching Band. We will be performing music from our halftime shows this season and some of the drum grooves and music from the stands. For those of you who don't have a chance to see us at halftime this would be a great opportunity to enjoy some of the music. We will have the dance team and Monte as our special guests. Also performing with us is Professor Rob Tapper, UM Director of Jazz Studies, who will be soloing on trombone. The band loves being part of the Wa-Griz atmosphere and supporting the football team. This is a chance for us to perform one last time before putting the band to bed until next August. Click on the image below for more information. I hope you can join us and Go Griz!

I'm happy to see our band continue to flourish. They are an important part of the Game Day experience

UMGMB, glad you posted this. Several questions. What's the relationship between the GMB and the band that plays at basketball games? The number of dancers seems to have dropped to only 7 this month. There were more in the fall and even in the earlier hoops games. What's up with that?

Hi PlayerRep,
The basketball band or pep band is auditioned from within the marching band. Some of our tunes are the same as football season so it reduces the amount of time getting ready for basketball season if we already have some of the music ready to roll. As far as the dance team, I know that like the pep band, they have students who go home for the break and there aren't as many available until classes start again. There are games where I have to get out my trumpet and play with the band until students begin returning for winter or spring semester. I think it's the same for them. I do know that there has been a recent Big Sky rule change regarding the use of cheerleaders and/or dance team on the end line of the court but I don't know exactly what the change is.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone in the band receive a stipend? Actually, the dance team is down to 7. The others quit. There was no Big Sky rule change. UM dug out an old never-enforced rule, which the Big Sky has said it has no intention of enforcing, and used it to limit the number spirit squad on the floor to 12 for the first month of conference play. UM had now backed off of that, and the full spirit squad is back on the floor during games.

There is a small stipend available for the students who play in pep band at the games. It is not much but the students enjoy being there so we have been able to maintain our numbers so far.

You are very welcome PolsonGrizFan! We have a great time and are always trying to improve what we do.
