Special teams

Rewatched game...special teams need a lot of work. A couple non-fielded (fair catch!!) Punts cost a ton of yardage in lost field position, maybe if JW can't get up to the ball the need two back there. Missed field goal was huge, and damn near missed another

Seems the kick/punt coverage improved substantially over week 1; that was good. The punt thing is mystifying - can't figure out if that is JN choosing not to catch and/or return or if that is what he has been coached to do. We got pinned on the 1 yard line twice. Interested in thoughts of others - are these John's call or is he doing what he's been coached to do?

You're surprised that Ngyuen was back to making some questionable decisions on fielding punts? At least he didn't drop any of the ones that he went to catch. Hopefully he'll get back into the swing of it once he fields a few more punts....oh wait...didn't he return punts last year too? Maybe he's just "rusty."

The crazy thing is, apparently we don't have anybody that has emerged in practice as better or more reliable.

This is baffling to me also, you can tell John is just not comfortable back there, at this point it's a fair catch or he bails, at least he's been holding on to everything he's attempted which is good.

it is hard to believe we don't have anybody else to try back there, I know they tried Henderson in practice and he had the dropsies but we do have 187 receivers on this team, you would think one would be decent at it because some of them did it in high school.

UM has not had good special teams since Hauck left. We used to salivate when an opposing kicker or punter would have to kick to Tuff Harris, Levander Segars, Jefferson Heidlberger, or Mark Mariani. Those days are long gone, my friend. Now, hold our breath hoping we don't screw the pooch again!

Pflugrad, Delaney, and now Stitt all believe the Nguyen's are the best punt returners.

I would just settle for a punt catcher at present....

Just another example of how our recruiting has slipped.
