speaking of west virginia...

they've got a kid i wish we'd recruited, mazzulla. one of their two seven-footers in named smalligan. if anybody on their team talks some trash look no farther than ted talkington. nothing unusual about a kid with the last name of west, until you find out he's jerry's son. chances are we won't see him however since he's a likely redshirt.

west virginia loses several of their top players from last year, and as noted elsewhere, fran fraschilla thinks we're going to beat them. but they're extremely well coached, and have far more talent than five years ago when john beilein took over this team and still managed to win 14 games. they're coming off two straight sweet-16 appearances, and have those two seven-footers to throw at us. i think this is going to be a real tough game for us.

I'm really looking forward to this game. ESPN2 on Thanksgiving night? Doesn't get much bigger or better than that.

West Virginia doesn't have too much experience coming back which definitely plays in our favor. Secondly, they play 3 pasties before us, so not much experience will be gained before they play us either.

Nobody on their offense particularly scares me, it's just that their whole team could get ridiculously hot on offense as they like to sling up those 3's.

On defense, they play a 1-3-1, which we could definitely attack pretty well if we come out with confidence. Hasquett and Strait will need to work together in a classic high post-low post scheme which they do well already. If we just get Hasquett the ball on the elbow, we'll be fine. First option, knock down that shot. Second, dump down to Strait for a quick (before the D collapses) bucket. Third, quick pass out to the 3 and knock down some shots.

We should beat WV, and I hope the attitude is that this game is strictly business that needs to be taken care of. Just like Wyoming and Utah Valley St, take care of those first.

Next round, beat Va Tech then we can discuss S. Illinois or Arkansas.
