Some thoughts on Pokey

I take my son to a couple college football games each year. We try to do one road Griz game and then one FBS game. Gives him the opportunity to get familiar with some of the colleges that he may want to attend one day. The only places we haven't been to yet is SUU, Sac State, and UND. Our favorites so far have been NAU and Cal Poly.

I say this knowing several very good people that are EWU fans and actually having a lot of respect for their program and what they have accomplished, but I'll never take my son to a game in Cheney again. Every road game has some animosity towards us in our Griz gear, usually a drunk college student, but most environments I have found friendly and welcoming with friendly banter. At EWU, me and my son, who was 9 years old at the time, were flipped off several times and heard "f' the griz" or "griz suck" several other times. It was by far the worst college football experience we've had. In the stands there was a guy behind us who was continually yelling obscenities at our players and coaches. I asked him to watch his language in front of my son, and he continued to do even more of it, while others just laughed and even encouraged him. A few EWU fans apologized to us for his behavior, but it was just an unpleasant experience and we ended up leaving in the 3rd quarter.

I actually think EWU has decent facilities and a stadium for the BSC. Their fans just need to learn to be a bit more classy. It reflects poorly on your University, which is too bad. Happy to hear that fans from other teams have had better experiences. Maybe it is getting better?
