Smoke and Mirrors (and a lot of courage)...and Next Season

Given the obvious problems the Griz faced this year with key injuries and a lack of post presence, I think their achievements were quite remarkable. They were just a couple of three point buzzer beaters (Weisner and Gregory) away from being 17-3 in conference and and enjoying a trip to Ogden for the tournament. For much of yesterday's debacle, the Griz were forced to play wings in both post positions. I really hope that Wayne recruits two quality big men for next season. I know this is easier said than done but I don't want to be one injury away from landing back in the same predicament we were in this year.

Part of the problem is, unless there are departures from the program, Coach Tinkle has some scholly issues:

Seniors Leaving:
1.Cherry
2.Ward

2014 SR's:
3. Coleman
4. Hutchison
5. Jamar

2014 JR's:
6. Weisner
7. DeSheilds
8. Gregory
9. Henderson

2014 SO's:
10. Martin
11. Wiley
12. Emerson

2013 FR's:
-Dunn
-Gfeller
-Bradshaw

Tinkle has three guys coming in, all guard/forward types. If that is then Tinks has all of his guys maxed out for 2014.

The only way to bring in more is to have one or two of the guys on scholarship become walkons to bring in one or two big guys. I don't know if there is going to be departures but right now there isn't any room to bring in another guy unless someone has their scholly pulled or leaves.

I suspect (only a guess) there will be at least once scholarship freed up from a current player. This seems to happen every year. The other variable is whether Bradshaw is on scholarship next year.

It now kinda bugs me that Emerson received a scholly. I expect more from him. Granted, yes, he is a freshman, but he was on the same playing field/minutes played as Morgan Young. I just don't see him being a big factor in the years to come. Great bench guy though, but anyone can cheer hard from there.

If scholarships are occasionally "freed-up" I hope it's Emerson's.
