But if you're looking for his opinions on Griz football in his day-to-day beat, i.e. game stories, notebooks, game advances and player and coach features in the print Missoulian, you aren't going to find much because Fritz is a quality, professional sports journalist.

I'm not having an issue differentiating between the two. You were the one that said beat writers don't write columns and don't give opinion. I'm telling you they do and am backing up that statement with links.

I didn't say beat writers don't write columns. At many small papers they do. You were specifically talking about why Fritz doesn't write NEGATIVE things about Griz football and I said that's not his job. Yes, he does write a column here or there, but it's not his primary job, and in season, you'll almost NEVER see one from him. That's Speltz's job. And to add to that, it isn't a columnist job to write negative opinions either. They are generally free to write whatever they want on whatever they want. So, if you're looking for hatchet men, you're generally not going to find them in small-town newspapers. If you want hatchet job,s, I reccommend Skip Bayless. He will fill your need daily.

The NCAA recently announced that UM scholarship athletes who enrolled in the 2005-06 academic year hold the highest federal graduation rate in the Big Sky Conference. UM's most successful program for the 2005-06 class, both athletically and academically was football. The Grizzlies were Big Sky Conference champions in 2005, 06, 07, 08, and 09, and played for the national championship in 2008 and 09. Ninety percent of the players in that class graduated from Montana within the required six-year window, the highest rate in the UM athletic department.

Stop sticking up for "thuggery" Bwall! You know those headshots were photoshoped....most likely from jail booking photos. There is no way hospital staff would let 5 "thugs" through the front door, especially in Helena where Pat Williams has connections.

It’s a classic case of good news/bad news for Montana senior men’s basketball standout Mathias Ward.

First the good news. Ward was named Thursday to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Ward, a 6-foot-7, 228-pound forward from Gig Harbor, Wash., was named to the third team. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in accounting and maintains a 3.69 grade point average. He has already earned a master’s degree in business administration. He received his B.A. in business and carried a 3.84 GPA as an undergraduate at UM. Ward is the first Grizzly player in 13 seasons to be named to the Academic All-America basketball squad; Matt Williams was selected to the team in 2000. “What a tribute to that kid and what he stands for,” said Griz head coach Wayne Tinkle. “As an individual, that’s about as good of an award as there is. That’s why they’re here. They’re student athletes, and he is the epitome of that. “He is an unbelievable person with great character. Aside from what he does on the floor for us, which we know is awesome. He’s just a great representative of Grizzly basketball and of the University of Montana and our athletic department overall. Those are the kind of kids that we bring here, and it’s neat to see their successes and an award like this speaks volumes.”

A guy in a hoodie and the other wearing black with a ball cap turned backwards while indoors......obvious "thuggery" on display. Is it me, or is he flashing a sign? I bet the innocent children forced to witness this outlandish behavior were fearful for their lives and may suffer from it in the years to come.

During his trial, Johnson (oddly) testified, "I admit I'm not a good person." And you can take that statement any way you want. But he's always been considered a good quarterback. And the Grizzlies appear poised to get him back.

One of the listed character witnesses for Jordan Johnson, who had undergone deposition and was not allowed to participate by Judge Judy was a classroom volunteer at Cold Springs school who was in charge of the "Celebrity Reading Program". She would have testified that she had never met Jordan but got his number from the athletic department and called him at the request of a bunch of 6th graders. He immediately volunteered to come out and spend fifteen minutes reading to the class. Then went out with them at recess and threw the ball and spent an extra hour playing and talking with a couple dozen eleven year olds. No cameras. No press. And, yes, she had to show dated emails to the prosecution prove that all of this took place before the Forester's Ball.

If one reads the top of the article and they will learn that this statement was taken completely out of context. Greg Rachac does an excellent job in explaining that statement and makes it very clear how it was taken out of context. I, for one, appreciate Greg's efforts to report the facts accurately. Quite a different approach than some local reporting.

More thuggery on the horizon. Former Griz Ryan Fetherston recently shaved his head in support of a girl that lost her hair after being caught in a fire (in addition to other students at the school he teaches at as well).
