Signing period Wednesday

So what do you guys know about the Griz signing anyone this Wednesday. I have not heard of any confirmed signing for the first day. I do not believe even McGillis has commited yet. I am not even sure who is coming back next year. From Kysco's camp I hear that Lynch will be under scholarship next year, but from Lynch's camp he has been cut. Does anyone know/ have a feeling how many scholarships and who the Griz will sign?

From the Cat side they have two solid commits from:

Jacques Wilson a 6-1 point guard of Century High School in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Idaho State assistant basketball coach

Chawn Johnson 6-8 of Antelope Valley High School in California a highly ranked senior

They also look strong for Chaz Dykes, a 6-4 junior college guard from New Orleans, and entertained last week Branden Johnson 6-8 of Eisenhower High school in Yakima Washington the 2nd or 3rd ranked post in Washington this year. The Cats do not apear to be recruiting McGillis

mslacat- I don't know anything you don't since I mostly rely on you for recruiting info. I suppose Lynch could stay on as a walk-on. Given his lack of production last year, it's hard for me to understand how he would stay on with a scholarship. :-? Farr and Easley both contributed much more than Lynch, and they are both gone.

Lynch's schollie is gone. Count on it. I have it on very good authority that this is the case. I feel bad for the kid, but he just isn't a Div. 1 player...

Maybe the coaching stafff should be more upfront with kids. The above post just said it, Lynch's camp thinks his schollie is gone while coach K says he still has it. Sounds like communicaiton problems.

Also, I do not believe in pulling schollies. The coaching staff should take it upon themselfs to coach him into a better player, not just pull his schollie. Who would sign with the griz knowing they might not have a schollie for four years. A lot of our players are out of state players, what does this staff expect these kids to do if this is the policy going forward? Not only that, this is coach K given schollie not Kennedy's. Pulling schollies is classless and unethical coaching and is no way to build a program.

It is possible Lynch was given a scholarship by Krysko on a one year only basis when the decision was made to pull Mike's scholarship. Also, I wouldn't read too much into message board chat about who says what is which "camp". Krysko also stated, soon after he was hired, that scholarships would be reassessed after his first year.

Hey gotgame75. Lynch isn't a D-1 player???? Obviously your a poor judge of talent. He obviously is good enough to play for the Griz as he played significant minutes up until he got injured. He showed alot of promise and you dont just yank scholarships from kids who work there ass off everyday for you. Oh and to say that Farr is a more productive player than Brian is outrageous. Lynch is one of the best shooters on that team and deserves to have a scholarship. I doubt he would stay w/ out a scholarship and I dont blame him. I understand though if Krysco wants to give his scholarship to some juco transfer w/ a 1.8 G.P.A and 97" vertical....yeah 97". Hell the transfers earned it.

UMdeez-A little defensive are we??? I hold no ill will against lynch, I am simply regurgitating information given to me by people that are in the know. I am not saying it is right or wrong to take away his scholarship either! This info was told to me by someone in a position to know these things as a fact, therefore I was just sharing with the board what this person told me. This person also felt, as do I, that Lynch just doesn't have the talent in the right areas to justify keeping a scholarship for the Griz. Yes, he is a good shooter and that is a plus, but other than that he just doesn't have the athleticism necessary to be a Div. I guard. With the emergence of Martin, Lynch simply became expendable. In addition, the Griz have an incoming recruit in Ryan Staudacher, a 6'3" shooting guard, that is one of the best 3 point shooters percetnage wise in the history of Washington high-school BBal. He was also his football team's starting QB and is second in King County football (Seattle) in Career passing yards. There again, being an obviously bigger and better all-around athlete than Lynch and an equally good, if not better shooter, he is one more reason Lynch became expendable.

I wish Him good luck wherever he ends up.

The word expendable!!! Is this some sort of professional league, where athletes get paid. I don't think so. So don't speak about being expendable. When a kid has a scholarship, he should have it for the remaining time in the program. Plain as simple.

I propose an interesting question, if a player was to have a career ending injury, doe the kid still deserve his schollie?

I'd be willing to bet if this was an out of state kid, no one would care if his scholarship was cut. If it is going to be cut.
There has to be the potential to pull a kid's scholarship, otherwise they can take advantage of the system. Also, Krysko's job is to make the team the best he can, and for the good of the entire team, certain things have to be done that may not give everyone a warm and fuzzy feeling, but that is how college sports are.
In this particular case, it sounds like Lynch got a scholarship because one was available. Maybe Krysko should have saved the scholarship so he wouldn't be put into this situation and then Lynch wouldn't have gotten any money. Or Lynch can be gratefully that he was given a chance and some money and work his ass off to see if he can get it back..if it is going to be cut.
I certainly have sympathy for kids who work hard and still get their scholarships cut, but scholarships are a yearly deal, not 4 or 5 year deals.

I don't know why this is such a huge shock to people. Krysko stated prior to the season that he reserved the right to reevaluate all scholarships after his first season. Remember that none of these kids are his recruits, so therefore he undoubtedly wants to make his own mark on the program. Lynch has always been on the fringes talent-wise of deserving a scholie. He busted his ass and eventually earned one, but the coaches obviously felt that what he brought to the team just didn't warrant a scholarship in light of the new talent available. I also resent the the idea that once someone is given a athletic scholarship that this is some sort of 4 year contract. Academic scholarships are regulated by certain minimum achievement levels, i.e. credits taken and GPA, that are reevaluated every semester. Thus, I think it is fair that coaches have the right to reassess their program's scholarships prior to and after every season.
