For the Lady Griz signing Jamie Pickens will be a great addition for them. I know Jace Henderson is the only senior listed on the roster but think there is one more scholarship available also.

This is always an exciting time for the basketball programs.

Lady Griz have 14 players on the roster with one of them being a walk-on leaving 13 scholarship players. Take Henderson out, and you have 12 scholarship players and 3 available scholarships available. Pickens hopefully will be one of them if she honors her verbal commitment Leaving 2 other scholarships available. Maybe Zareia will sign with the Lady Griz.
I think you're forgetting about Shelby Schweyen. She's in the same class as Pickens.

Correct. Lady Griz have 1 to give.

Well, Pickens and Shelby Schweyen have signed on and been announced on gogriz.com.

Doesn't appear there will be another one. this is likely the way that the Lady Griz will be cutting back on spending due to budget cuts, by not using all the scholarships they can give out.

There is another signing period in April.

Scholarships don’t come from the school budget.

True. At least not directly. Comes from the athletic budget which some of the athletic budget comes from the School budget which is being cut so therefore, some of the athletic budget would be cut because of it.

Also, I do realize there is another signing period and still time for another signing this period. But, somehow, I believe these 2 signings are going to be it. Never had 15 scholarship players the last year, and this year, So why should there be next year.

Does anyone know more about these two? I dont follow the out of state high school ranks and know nothing about them. Were we surprised we got them? Another great recruiting job by Travis and staff? Knowing Travis and staff I would assume so. What about the Hellgate kid, Worster?

You should really educate yourself about what the Grizzly Scholarship Association does for athletics.

Exactly. The more scholarships the teams give, the more money the school gets. Thanks to the GSA.

Well, thanks for enlightening me, even though I did know about the GSA since I contribute to it. Guess the GSA is rolling in the money and can provide all the scholarship money every athletic program can have. Doubt it covers all the other recruiting costs involved though.

The Lady Griz staff have known that Pickens and Schweyen have been verbals for a year. Since they have continued to bring in prospective recruits, that would seem that they have every intention to fill that last scholarship.

Yes, I am hoping so. Zareia Chevre visited both MSU and UM recently. The only reason I said that there may not be another one given out is that the Lady Griz has had quite a few seasons where they didn't have all 15 scholarships used up. Many of the reasons is because of players deciding not to continue on (Lonergan is one, but there are others), plus injuries. Also, Shannon may be holding back on the scholarship for next spring or even next fall if a better player is available that is better than the ones that have visited. Plus, the only reason women's basketball has up to 15 scholarships is because of title IX. Not because they actually need them. Title IX doesn't force them to use all 15 scholarships.

Anyway, bdiddle post seems to indicate the GSA has an infinite amount of money to give out for scholarships. They do not. But I am sure they do have the funds to fund a 15th scholarship for the Lady Griz.

Interview with coach DeCuire re: Josh. Lauded him as a pure PG and someone who might make a run at Montana's current assist record. Hmmm. Now, who holds the current record?

Whew, got a little anxious when that one didn’t come in yesterday. Big time get!

Tried to check the preps recruit-rank ratings to see how Montana's three early signees stack up. Most of the services have a subscriber gate, which I wasn't willing to pay. BUT, 247 Sports has a Top 50 High School Prep Recruits of 2019... on which Montana recruit
Derrick Carter-Hollinger appears at: #25/3-Stars.

Pretty heady company for a Griz recruit. I couldn't find any other ranking info.

Signing days for National Letters of Intent for basketball runs from the 14th through the 21st of November. Are there any surprises out there?
Yes but I can't spill the beans!

You'd think by now the beans would be done cooking, don't want to burn them. Might as well spill them!!
