Last week at Cal Poly, Quarterback Alex Kuresa accounted for all four Viking touchdowns and a two-point conversion as he brought Portland State back from eight points behind in the second half to win 38-35.
Kuresa rushed 18 times for 101 yards (of PSU's 154) and two touchdowns, and completed 16 of 25 passes for 232, throwing for two more scores. Among Kuresa's big plays were a touchdown run of 40 yards on a fourth-and-five play from CP's 40.
PSU used a reverse, pitch back pass to #4 who hit a wide open #9 for six.
PSU went 3-13 on third downs and kicked two 35 yd. field goals, and the 26 yard game winner, with just 33 seconds remaining.
PSU's defense got burned with 29, 50 and 57 yard runs, giving up 420 yards rushing. PSU's pass defense allowed 116 yds. They recovered 3 fumbles.
It would be nice to see coach Stitt create some escape plays for Simis to use his legs more this weekend in QB draws, if the "three amigos" are covered... and even when they're not.
All of us who believe Simis is the best fit at QB understand that if he runs more effectively than Gus and Chad, and continues to throw well, he'll continue as number 1.
