Shawn Stockton

I was really impressed. He was steady, yet plenty aggressive on defense... he was one of the top rebounders, believe it or not... if he keeps getting playing time, I think he'll gain more confidence and his shot will fall more often, though I doubt he or the coaches want him to be the first or second option on offense. Great game, Shawn.

Best game of his career against Weber. Stockton will help the team if he plays like he did today. Good for him if he does.

Yup. I will take a 6 point, and 5 rebound afternoon game from him anyday.

Mick Holien's view from Griz Vox in the Missoulian online:

"But while BQ’s 23 points led the way I believe the insertion of junior Shawn Stockton into the starting lineup solidified a group already altered with Art Steward, who is replacing the injured Kareem Jamar.

Stockton’s stats don’t show his importance on the floor but his 32 minutes were that of grit and determination, let alone hustle, and his effort seems to inspire the rest of the lineup."

32 minutes and no turnovers. Bad ass!

Here is an article on Stockton on his increased minutes:

Grizzlies' Stockton stepping into a bigger role

ShareShare Rating: 12345 0.0 (0 votes) MISSOULA- The Grizzly men have run out to an 11 and 5 overall record this basketball season. But the injury bug made an appearance last week.

Freshman starter Kareem Jamar hurt his finger and missed the last two games, and the coaches aren't sure when he'll be back.

One of the Grizzlies stepping into that hole is Shawn Stockton, the nephew of NBA hall-of-famer John Stockton. The junior guard saw his minutes per game go up from the teens to the thirties recently. And Stockton says he offers many services on the court, even if they don't always show up in the box score.

"You know, I think it just goes down to playing hard, they don't need me to score a bunch of points. But lately, I've been playing pretty good defense, and you know that's what's going to get me on the court. And you know, just hustle plays, and you know making the extra pass for teammates, getting the ball moving. And I think that's why my play has increased."

Griz head coach Wayne Tinkle says Stockton may not score a lot of points but his presence on the floor is admirable.

"You know, a lot of the intangibles. You know, he can handle the ball. He can defend. He's a presence out there. And then his toughness is probably his biggest strength, and our guys really feed off of that."

Stockton made his 2nd career start in a win at Sacramento State last Saturday, and will need to fill a big role this week as the Grizzlies continue conference play. They host Eastern Washington on Thursday, and Portland State on Saturday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. in Dahlberg Arena.

The Lady Griz split their first two conference games, and now head out on the road for the first time in a while. Montana travels to Northern Arizona on Thursday. And then on Saturday afternoon, they wrap up the road trip at Weber State.

Tink's is right on. Stockton is a scrapper and does a lot on the floor that doesn't show up in the stat sheet. I say keep the kid in. He is a winner and plays hard nosed defense. He promised me a break away dunk soon and without more minutes we all know that won't happen. lol

I like any fella named Stockton. It's really cool that y'all talk to each other.

It reminds me of this time when I was playing golf with Bubba Watson, Michael Jordan, and Neil Armstrong. Neil hauled off and whacked it over the dogleg, and lo and behold, his ball got lodged in the needles of an eighty-foot tall white pine. I'll be damned if ol' Neil didn't grab a chainsaw, saw that sonofabitch down, and play 'er right where she lay. He holed out for eagle, and we all shared a fifth of Tanqueray right then and there.

Something I've noticed interesting about Stockton. He's always one of the top rebounders when he gets a lot of minutes. Think he had 6 against EWU. Tho he's usually the shortest guy on the floor, he's always hustling to the ball.

Maybe he can help pick up the slack when BQ graduates.
