Screen passing

I was glad to see a couple of screen passes yesterday. Van in open space is a nightmare for defenses. Also, it takes pressure off the pass rush on JJ. Sure hope to see more of them in the future and not just middle screens.
Go Griz!

I'm not near as smart as many of the posters on here, although I did play the game. That being said, like the coaches or not, I think they are smart enough to see how well it worked yesterday. Maybe keeping those plays close to the hip and not showing too much for the next few difficult games. Use them to our advantage against teams we really need those plays to work well. In the long run, takes pass rush off JJ for those continuous long passes that do nothing but decrease JJs pass efficiency numbers 8-)

I thought the play calling was exceptional yesterday on both sides of the ball....we have come a long, long way from last year....

I know in the past in seemed the a Griz knew when Cal Poly would be bringing the pressure with the blitz and they would burn them big with a timely well run screen pass.

I agree. We mixed in a few draw plays also that looked just a step away from popping for big yards also. I think the play book is much bigger than we have seen so far. Most likely, we will see a few more pages of the play book opened up over the next two weeks.
Go Griz!

I liked the screen passes too, they were a little dangerous looking the way they were thrown but they worked nicely. Van just needs to hang on to the ball a little better when he cuts and the defenders are coming up from behind him.
