Satellite Coordinates?

Anybody have information regarding satellite coordinates? Usually Guffey's game press release has satellite information on it, but this week it didn't have anything besides the MM broadcast. Any info would be great!

Did they say who the on air talent would be?

I'm starting to believe all the out of staters that rely on the FTA systems for watching the games are screwed this week....and probably for the other game broadcast by MaxMedia. I already miss KPAX.

I found a post on Bobcat Nation that says Max Media "always uses AMC16" so I am going to blind scan that satellite just prior to the start of the game in hope of finding it. They need to get the video stream to their transmission facility somehow and satellite is the easiest way to do that. Scrambling the uplink costs extra because it takes extra bandwidth so it will probably be sent in the clear. Here's hoping...

The only chance you have of picking this game up off FTA is to figure out which satellite it is being uplinked to from their truck in Missoula. Once DirecTV picks it up and encodes and uplinks it again you are screwed unless you have a very special set of skills to write code and program a satellite receivers frequency plan.

It doesnt cost more to "scramble the uplink" as far as bandwidth. You are still using the bandwidth of one transponder or a half transponder depending on what you ordered. The cost involved in scrambling a signal would be if you encode the bitstream with encryption. Then you need to buy encoders at the uplink and program the receivers with the correct frequency plan, polarity and symbol rate etc.

Transponder time is transponder time, its your pipe to do with it as you please until your allotted time is up.

Thanks for the clarification. Nope I won't be writing any satellite code. My expertise is in HDCP and its impact on link bandwidth and I made a bad assumption that something similar applies to a satellite link. Anyway, I'm hoping that they send the signal in the clear and if not then I will out of luck.

OK I am confused............I have DISH.....I went to channel 426 found it and i am watching

The game against USD is being broadcast by Max Media Montana which is NOT related to ROOT. Max Media is not available on Dishnetwork. For future games that ARE on ROOT, if you have the All Sports Package (or whatever it is called), you will be able to see the Griz games on ROOTRM (i.e. Root Rocky Mountain). If you now get channel 426 then you already have ROOT and you should be good to go for games that are carried by ROOT.

Hopefully that is clear...?

Thanks I feel better now.....I did know UM and MSU were on channel 23 and have those games taped.

For the South Dakota game if you have Dish it will be on channel 23. If you were watching Seattle and the ROOT channel some of the Griz games will be on.

From a conversation with my Dishnetwork service person: Max Media on Dishnetwork is a "local channel" only available if you have the appropriate ZIP Code (I would presume it would have to be a 59XXX number in your account address).

I am in Portland and channel 23 does not appear in my program guide.

Correct - channel 23 is the local ABC affiliate.

According to Dave Guffey from the Athletics Dept, the satellite coordinates will not be made available to the public by MaxMedia. That was a decision made by MM not by UM. Bobcat bias?

I believe that they want you to pay for the streaming feed. Obviously they make no money from providing the FTA satellite signal. The problem comes when you are out of state and have no reliable highspeed internet (yes, there are actually such places in the world and I am in one).

Call up Claudia's in the SE and ask if they'll be showing the GoGriz stream! Usually 15-20 Griz fans there :thumb:
