I vote Senior Guard Virgil Mathews as the EWU game MVP for Montana: 18 pts, 10 assists
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matthews scored 15 of his 18 points in the final 15 minutes as the Grizzlies rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Eastern Washington 78-72 in a Big Sky Conference game.
Matthews dished out 10 assists in addition to his scoring.
Matthews scored 10 of Montana's final 19 points as the Grizzlies pulled away.
The Griz and Matthews blunted every charge the Eagles mounted over the final few minutes. Eastern crawled within 66-65 on a pair of free throws by Deuce Smith with 3:38 to play, but Matthews came right back with a layup at the other end....
...(later on) After Stuckey made a free throw, Matthews applied the dagger. Strait missed a fall-away jumper at the end of the shot clock, but Matthews snuck in along the baseline and scored the put-back, making it 72-66 with 1:28 remaining. The Griz pulled away from there.
“He left right in front of me on the bench, snuck around and tipped it in,” Krystkowiak said. “That's Virgil, just not giving up on a play. It was a huge, huge play.”
Other players in my consideration:
Andrew Strait, 19 pts, 9 rebounds
Kevin Criswell, 15 pts, 7 rebounds
Another nice game (timely 2nd half 3 pointer and also 17 ft jump shot) for Stuart Mayes, 11 pts (career high)
