Sad, Proud Day for Us All

Since nobody else has done it here on Memorial Day ... Here goes.

I know that ALL here on eGriz recognize, and are thankful for, the ultimate (and lesser) sacrifices of those who donned the uniform(s) to protect the home front and our freedoms. Thank GOD, despite so many seemingly intractable problems, we still have young men and women who step up.

So: THANK YOU ALL. We are sad for the loss of those who are gone -- or are living with consequences -- but PROUD to do you honor.

Is this football related? Of course, for football (and other sports) teaches participants and (indirectly) spectators the value and power of teamwork.

+A really big number.

+666,441 if you're considering US soldiers KIA

+1,354,664 totaling up US soldiers that were either KIA or died from other causes associated with combat.

Thanks, IdaGriz... I don't function well so to speak on Memorial Day, but I love the tributes to my Brothers and Sisters going back to the beginning...

I don't have official records before WW1, but have heard my family has Military ties back to the Civil War at least... I have to dig into that...

I do have a framed citation from WW1 for my Great Uncle, Company E 5Th Marines which reads "For Distinguished and Exceptional Gallantry at Argonne Forest on 10 Nov 1918 in the operations of the American Expeditionary Forces in testimony thereof, and as an expression of appreciation of his valor, I award him this citation"

John J.Pershing, Commander In Chief

I don't know what medals he received, maybe I can dig for that also... I don't even know what medals my father received, he was a Marine also and just never talked about it...

Anyway, one of my favorite bands sings a good song to the fallen...
