SacSt coach Sperbeck leaving

Anonymous ten page letter. Unless there is something huge, I would agree with PR. Perhaps the bitter prick could change professions and get a job at the Missoulian.

do you think he stepped down or was asked to resign over something minor?

Hopefully, the snitch asst will never get a job in coaching again. F him.

Are you suggesting illegal activity is acceptable in today's college football? I thought you were a cop or something to do with law enforcement? Odd comment indeed

Are you suggesting that not complying with minor ncaa rules constitutes "illegal activity"?

Did the UM players who had hot dogs and water at tailgates engage in "illegal activity"?

Do you think everyone who sees or hears about someone doing something wrong, should tattle on them or turn them in? Speeding, talking/texting on cell phone from driving, fudging on taxes, driving with an expired registration, leaving car in an expired parking meter, smoking marijuana, etc.?

You are funny.

From what's been published so far, and what I've heard, yes.

Are you suggesting those things you mentioned (such as speeding, etc...) are not "illegal activity"?

Why would he do that? If you have good info about that program as you claim... you have to know more. There's no way in hell those two tiny infractions would cause him to step down, any decent lawyer would make that case for him. There has to be something else.

I have said that minor ncaa violations are not illegal activity. Do you disagree?

I listed other things, which are against the law, and asked if the poster thinks that others should routinely turn in everyone they see or hear is doing that illegal activity?

Can you read?

I have some information from people involved in the program or once removed, and have looked at the message board/internet. Never claimed to have great info. I assume there must be something more, but most of the speculation is that the allegations were relatively minor. See below posts:

1. "Joe Davidson ‏@SacBee_JoeD 4m

What we know about Marshall Sperbeck's sudden resignation at Sac St:Someone (probably fired asst) sent info to NCAA,urgin investigation..."

2. "From what I have heard these aren't infractions on the scale of USC, Penn St, Miami, or even the stuff Montana recently went through...but something that will likely cause a good hand slapping to the program from he NCAA if anything. Don't want to speculate here but it sounds like a former employee/coach or athlete, didn't like how they were treated when let go and complained via an anonymous letter to the SacBee, school and NCAA.

I for one appreciate all he has done for the program and wish him the best.

I'm hoping that the NCAA doesn't do anything more than a warning, that Coach Sears has a successful transition and that the players respond outstandingly....as for the anonymous tipster...good luck with your career in whatever you do, as it won't likely be in the field you were just in."

3. "Absolutely, if they were valid I would bring my concerns to Sperbeck, Wanless and Gonzalez in that order and give each a chance to correct the violations. Even if would cost my job. If no action was taken I would contact the NCAA. At least I would still have my self respect. If you would be let go for pointing out violations that would make the school and the violations look even worse.
I suspect that the letter was a collaboration by coaches, and maybe players that were kicked to the curb over the past several years are bitter and can't get over it. The front men are likely Roberson and Gigli since they were the last out and had the most recent about the program. I don't see the rational for Parker to shake the cage. He was the one retained by Sperbeck when the rest were kicked to the curb.
As a fan I'm sorry all this has come about we need to know the facts and move on. I hope that this has not caused too much damage to the program. I hope Baiz, Osterhout and Roberson enjoy what's left of their coaching careers at ARC working for the ex ucdungpile AD. I wouldn't want any of them back at Sac State under any circumstances."

This article from the Bee has pretty good info. Note that the Bee was sent the 10-page letter, so they clearly know what was in it.

"... coincided with reports about simmering tension between Sperbeck and athletic director Terry Wanless."

"...10-page unsigned letter sent to the NCAA and Sac State, as well as The Sacramento Bee. The document accuses Sperbeck of possible recruiting violations such as exceeding the number of allowable phone calls to recruits and observing prospects during the dead period. It also lists the hirings and firings of assistant coaches and offers observations about the inner workings of the program with unusual specificity." [This shows that the letter had to have come from a coach, or some coaches.]

Sounds like a LOT more than a "letter/snitch" Sounds like a coach decided to hell with it. Hope he didn't wake up wondering what the F did I just do. I think few of us haven't felt that way.............

I would think its something minor, but I have no information to base anything on. If it was something big, I would bet they would just fire him. As for the anonymous one, a rat is a rat, and has my total contempt. Somewhere on par with Florio.
