Running backs

Why did only two running backs see the field on Saturday, I was looking forward to seeing some new blood in a position that looks a little weak.

"It is Tuesday, so no more questions about last week. We are well into week 2." - Head Coach Bobby Hauck

USD was geared up to stop the run. As a result, there were a lot of RPOs called that went as passes instead. In Hauck's presser he said there were easily 25 passes that could have been runs if they weren't dictated that way by the defense. There weren't enough carries to go past 1-2 on the depth chart despite Bobby stating on Saturday's pregame that the plan called for Ostmo to get some carries. It sounds like Ostmo is 3 ahead of Turner on depth based on the pregame discussion.

...I think we will see different RB depending on what team we will play..if the run game is there we
will run..if passing game is there we will pass..thats what I like about this team..they will tool up
where they have too..many tools in the box!

I’d bet the game plan was to make Sneed beat them with his arm & not his feet, as he did on multiple occasions last season. Not sure they were @all concerned about a conventional Griz running game because it wasn’t all that & a bag of chips last season. Sorry. I forgot. Never mind.

My guess is we will see more RBs used as conference season starts. Turner and Graves come to mind. I'm sure Knight and Eastwood will also be used, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are keeping some of the playbook under wraps before conference games start.

I’m not sure Graves has even practiced at RB, has he? I know he have heavy wildcat run packages with him at QB, but has he ever even practiced at RB this year?

And Turner is 4th string behind Ostmo

Bobby indicated in one of his prior interviews that they use the “hot-hand” process for determining playing time, particularly @RB. I agree on knight’s potential. But the issue this week is that N-AB’s lines pushed around UWIU’s on both sides of the ball. They’re also faster than USD. The oline has got to be better or it won’t matter who runs the ball.
