Rumors about Joe Glenn...

Was just reading the espn Wyoming message boards and there is talk there that Glenn is being considered for job at Univeristy of Arizona.

Most likely B.S. and that is what most people are saying there, but found it interesting none the less.

He's got the ol' Schmooze' working over there too... they're talking him up like a savior.

Just a matter of time and he'll leave Wyo. in the middle of the night and won't say good bye or good luck.... just like he did here.
He has a way of fooling folks. He had me convinced.
He would make a great politician. All he would have had to say is "this is a great opportunity for my family and I enjoyed my time here. I'll be watching and routing for you in the future. Go Griz." That's all.
Powder river he still sucks.

Let's see. $400,000 @ UW, or more than twice that at UA. It would certainly make a person think about it. I think there is probably a little more to this than B.S. If Joe would have had 2-3 wins at UW, I would have doubted it. But no one can argue that he has done a great job of turning the corner on that program, with someone else's players. That alone makes him a viable candidate for any program for next year.

Bronco - if you had a chance to quadruple your salary, how loyal would you be to your current employer? Wouldn't that be a great opportunity for your family?

I still have a hard time understanding people who dislike Joe because he left for a higher paying job in a IA conference (althought not a great one). I don't really like the way he left, but I certainly don't blame him for leaving.

Glen made the right choice.

3 wins in Wyoming, he's coach of the year.
8 wins in Montana? ....a boot in the rear!

Anyway - I didn't like his ideas about rivalries, what's good for Montana football, when (if ever) to use a backup QB, whether he ought to know what his assistants were up to, or when to stop focussing on Grizzly football to focus on moving.

I appreciate his contribution to Griz football and the success we all shared but....It was time for him to move on.

Let the flaming begin

No way does Glenn get the Az. job. The top 3 canidates are the Boise coach, OU defensive cordinator and the TCU coach. Glen just doesn't rate with those guys.

Don't forget, Glenn learned how to look out for himself back in 1984. The U of M created some hard fealing with the firing of Donovan's staff. The poor guy had to start over coaching his son's little guy football program.

Glenn, did a great job. I can only hope BH's 20 years go as well.

Glenn absolutly ranks with these guys.....and may be better, but time will tell if theat is the case or not.

I agree...Maybe one of their replacements, if they got the job at U f A.

MAYBE!

However, with Pete Carroll's recent success at USC...Maybe an ex-Pro Coach might get that job, that school should be a winner, just on location alone.

UofA pretty nice place I here, and the Pac-10 has had a few former NFL coaches make a stop for a year or two around the conference with success

Go Griz

Lots of talk here in Boise about coach Hawkins moving on to 'Zona, just like the previous coach (to ASU). We are hoping it isn't true, but money talks to most people. You would think Glenn would have to do what he is doing for at least a few years before getting a shot at a PAC10 school. Maybe even win the conference a couple of times. That will be tough to do at UW.

First of all, Joe Glenn is a great coach, and he had the right to leave, no question about it. The thing that pissed me off is that he was probably looking ahead to his next job at the end of last season when we lost 3 out of 4 games coming off a 24-game win streak. What's up with that? I don't fault him for leaving. Let's not forget that he was even fired here once as an assistant coach. He didn't owe us a thing, especially after delivering a National Championship.

As for Arizona, why wouldn't Urban Meyer at Utah be considered before Joe Glenn? Meyer's the hot name in the non-BCS ranks right now, and he's done a remarkable job turning around Utah into the MWC's best football team.

Why wouldn't Glenn be considered? Even if he doesn't win another game this season, he's already performed miracles at Wyoming. Also, Glenn already has had interest from PAC -10, Wazzou wanted to talk to him when Price left, but he had already taken the Wyoming job. I'm not saying he would have got it, but it shows the big boys know who he is.

Here's a copy of an article about Glenn on ESPN:

By Ed Graney
Special to ESPN.com

Urban Meyer from Utah might have already clinched conference Coach of the Year honors in the minds of many, but Joe Glenn is closing hard. The first-year Wyoming coach has his team 4-5 overall, 2-2 in conference and coming off an impressive victory against CSU. The Cowboys have this week off before ending with games at Utah and home to New Mexico and UNLV.

"Well, my comments back in the summer were that there would be a dogfight for the championship," said Glenn. "In my way of thinking, five teams still have a legitimate chance for at least a tie for (the title). The win over Colorado State was huge for us. We also have one over BYU. Those are two rivals for us, or at least I've been told so in my time here."

The last time Wyoming played three home games in Laramie during November: 1942. "We're glad to be home, but it's going to be very hard on our fans and the teams coming in here," said Glenn. "It makes it awful tough in a rural state like Wyoming and with the weather to get into Laramie. No question, it's an advantage for us. It just makes things hard on Wyoming people."

Wyoming has won three of four since its first bye of the season Oct. 4. Any specific reason? "If anything, our key players have remained healthy," said Glenn. "And our players are trying hard and want to get better. A lot of it is from the shoulder pads up. There's a good feeling about the program now."

On a side note, I also saw an article saying that Denny Green is the newest name in the Arizona Head Coach rumor mill, as well as their interim coach.

I will bet anyone on this board a six pack of beer if they think that Joe Glenn will get the job at the UA. I know from inside sources in the university who is on the short list there.

Jim Livengood is going after a BIG name coach and is giong to offer well over 1 million dollars.

1. Dan Hawkins (boise state)
2. Ricky Hunley (Cincinatti Bengals)
3. Mike Stoops (OU)

Wildcards

1. Jeff Tedford - lot of success at Cal but doesnt like fan and money support.
2.Dennis Greene- yes the vikings old coach, used to coach in pac 10.

My pick is hunley

Powder river he still sucks.

If you couldn't see the writing on the wall that he'd be moving on if a good paying 1-a job came up then you're the only one.

Why shouldn't he try and reach the higher levels of coaching? I don't think he did anything wrong. I don't even think he left us high and dry like some of you think. It is not like he could anounce to us that he got the Wyoming job before the University anounced it, we all knew he was interviewing for jobs, and when all of the Wyoming reporters were asking him what the first thing he was going to as Wyomings coach was, does anyone remember what he said? He said that he was flying back to Missoula that night to say good bye to his players and the University of Montana. We can't expect much better than that when a coach leaves. He was in Missoula the next day and the news interviewed him, and he as sincere and just said that it was an oppurunity for him. And we all seem to forget that the University of Montana was the same oppurtunity when he left Northern Colorado. Missoula was just a career stop probably like Wyoming is going to be too. He did great things for us and we should stop acting like he just dropped and left us. Atleast he didn't announce he was leaving before the season was over like that coach we played in the NC game did. We could and likely will have a coach that is much worse than Joe Glenn sometime in our future.

First of all, there is some precedence for a coach like Glenn moving up to a major Division IA program and having great success (see Jim Tressel @ OSU).

Second, and more importantly, he didn't do anything that anyone else on this board would have done. He got a lot more money for a higher profile job. How many people on this board discuss a new job they are seeking with their current boss or co-workers. You don't.

He doesn't owe UM anything, and vice versa.

He should get the job. He is an Alum and had a great career at UA. And by all accounts he is a great guy. Many wanted him there when they hired John Mac. Now he should get his shot. And let's face it, the fact that he is African-American helps his case, as it should. I think UA would love to help improve the percentage of African-American coaches in 1-A football.

Also, Glenn will have other opportunities. The UA job will not make or brake him. Since he is a good coach he will get his due attention in the future, assuming he does not go to UA.
