Gotta love the Big Sky refs.
Montana Gym Rat said:As for Durham's technical: try taking off the blue and gold glasses. Ref's just don't hand out technicals for no reason. Something happened (shocker that it was Durham) that caught the ref's attention.

Is that illegal now? If so, is this a recent change. We used to do it all the time.
THanks for any info.

seems that might be a hint for the ref about whether it was deliberate or accidental...

Funny, I'm hearing that went quite differently as a buddy of mine was one of the refs. He said that there was unquestionably some extra curricular activity on that play. And yes, if the referee decides that you meant harm by throwing the ball at an opponent, they can tee you up.I didn't see that play, so can't comment.

Jordan got knocked over under the basket and was laying flat on his back when the LMU player slammed the the ball has hard as he could toward Hasquet -- I couldn't see exactly where the ball hit, but it looked like it was close to hitting him in the face. I thought Jordan was pretty lucky to not be injured on the play. It was much more than simply trying to knock the ball out of bounds off a player.

i actually believe that. your buddy is a big sky ref....so he is horrible. i'm sure he does have a different version, just maybe not the right one.
Montana Gym Rat said:I didn't see who he was throwing the ball at. Actually I didn't even know he was trying to hit a player until I read the paper this morning. To me it looked like he was slamming the ball down because he was frustrated and got the technical.
He took the ball over his head with both hands and threw it down just about as hard as he could. That kid had a bad attitude all night and I think there were plays on the other end that might have led up to his technical.

I saw the play very well. He was saving a ball from going out-of-bounds. He made a smart play. Her wasn't trying to hurt anyone or slamming the ball in frustration at all. Unfortunately for him it looked worse than his intentions I am sure. My buddy said he got T'ed because it hit Criswell in the "jewels", but I didn't see that and I'm not sure if it was Criswell or Hasquet who got drilled. It was a hustle play, period. He had no time to think about trying to hurt someone. He threw the ball hard yes, but not maliciously at all, in my mind. He was shocked he was T'ed as was I. The crowd reaction helped garner the "T" for sure.
The Griz were on the short-end of most calls in the first-half and this was a make-up call to some degree.
