ROOT schedule 2016

I agree w snap and G4. f*** the cats and their stupid faces.
The extra game @MSmoo will showcase the southeast stadium while the other two games will be in the northwest stadium.
Dumbest configuration on the planet and now the dumbass cat engineers have impacted my viewing pleasure and I hate them even more (an everyday thing for me)

Are you thinking the stadium as it looks now is in its end state?

No. Aren't you guys doing some kind of volunteer paint party? Or, did that fall through this summer?

Dont sell them short...half the attendees at the paint party are also bringing bags of just add water cement.....the others are bringing large blue tarps from Ace Hardware. Next year there will be no gap between the two temporary stadiums.

This is just my opinion on the matter but ROOT Sports has done a fantastic job producing the games they air and honestly they're the best option we have out in the west. There isn't another larger sports network out west. And the ROOT Sports footprint isn't an issue. If you go to the ROOT Sports Southwest website, you'll see that they cover Big Sky football. So because of that, teams such as NAU and the California schools are in coverage are. The biggest reason why most of the big sky doesn't get TV time with ROOT Sports is because most teams' fanbases suck! It doesn't matter if Southern Utah won the conference for the first time ever, they're not going to see more than one televised game if all they average at home is 5,605 (2015 average). If that's all they can average, they don't have many more fans watching on tv. They had a total attendance of 28,027 for the entire year (6 games)! Let that sink in. ROOT Sports is a business and they want good tv ratings, and outside of the Northwestern schools, no other Big Sky teams have stepped up their game with attendance.

There is another solution. After the ROOT Sports contract expires, the Big Sky could try talking with ESPN and getting games on ESPN3 like the Missouri Valley Conference does. Then each Big Sky team gets equal playing Time on a major network. A lot of Griz fans will complain like they usually do with ESPN3 because they won't be able to figure out how to get ESPN3 (even though most of us now have access to it) but the rest of the Big Sky will benefit because most providers outside of Montana do carry ESPN3.

I guess it comes down to picking your poison. I personally enjoy ROOT Sports and feel they bring a better professional product to the conference than local stations or ESPN3. If other schools want to have tv time, they need to do a more consistent job with winning and have an increased sustainable attendance.

Good post, Get.

Root is available in nearly every market in the country. You may have to pay a few bucks for it, or go to your neighborhood sports bar, but it's nearly always available.

UM fans are lucky; we get a number of games on Root, and the rest available on satellite.

How are people not happy with the ROOT/BSC deal?? It's great exposure for the Conference and ROOT does a professional broadcast. Props to Fullerton.

Griz 2016 home schedule is weak. It makes sense to only have 4 games on ROOT.

Easy, they prevent us from airing every conference game nationally. Yes, every. UND has a relationship with FCS, and NAU has a relationship with Fox College Sports, as well. Fox sports would pick up all of UND's and at least some of NAU's conference football games, but can't due to the restrictions in the Root contract. It's bs that the contract limits UND with it's TV options without Root even airing a single game. I think UND fans have a legit gripe, and it has nothing to do with our attendance or stadium, as others have mentioned.

I would be fine with Root not airing any UND games, as we aren't in the Root footprint, but for them to prevent schools from airing conference games on national networks is ridiculous.

Indeed spot on!

Didn't Fox Sports do NAU games last season?

http://www.nauathletics.com/sports/fball/2015-16/schedule

Yes, Fox Sports Arizona aired games, and they are classified as a regional network. However, their game against NM Highlands was also on FCS Pacific (national network). NAU would have had other games on FCS Pacific if it weren't for the Root contract. The NM game was on FCS, because it wasn't a conference game.

I would assume that most people who have the sports package would get both networks, so it isn't that big of a deal for NAU. At UND, our games are aired by Midco Sports Network, which isn't available in most regions with the sports package. These are the games would be available nationally on FCS, but again, the Root contract prevents this. As a result, fans of Big Sky teams that play UND have to watch the game over the internet rather than on TV. Last time Montana played us in a non con game (2013), you had the chance to watch the game on FCS.
