Roll the Spuds....

Last time they were tossed was at the ESPN game right after the 1st Gulf War started.

Protesters on the court... being hammered by 100 MPH fastballs... then drug off the court by their hair by cops and football players.

Those were the days...

What was bad for the granolas was that when the student section threw the spuds they bounced off of them and into the geezer section, who quickly used the spud missiles themselves, albeit a bit slower!

I keep trying to get the ESPN video of this nationwide video, but cant seem to find anyone that has it...

yup, I remember that, as well. The ironic thing is that the protesters were absolutely right. Had more people protested there would not have been hundreds of thousands dead and not as many poor souls at the VA hospitals, especially in LA, with missing limbs, broken lives. I saw them every day and my anger grew so I stopped the work I was doing there. I now pay more attention to the messages protesters, at least legitimate ones, offer.

Obviously a few spuds need to be tossed GrizLA's way. I personally thought they were anything but right.

A better idea would be take the money you would spend doing that and sending it to some Vet's group that helps those who once thought as you do but now struggle without limbs, partial sight, and all the rest of the needless suffering that came with a war based upon lies. A lot of Vets need your support....even where you are.

Hey, how about we not let the political crap leak over into the Basketball forum? No offense but I'm guessing most people don't come to sports forums for deep political debates & discussions.

There are plenty of other forums (and even a section on eGriz) to debate whether various wars were justified and whether protesters that you don't agree with should be assaulted with deadly tubers :P

That said... I wonder how the refs today would react to an old zoo-like student section with students doing stuff like rolling a potato across the floor. I have a bad feeling hilarious antics like that wouldn't go over very well anymore unfortunately. I think we need some students to test that out though just to be sure!

There was another time we threw potatoes at the Idaho (sucks) players. The fog of time and alcohol at the time of the game have dulled the memory. IIRC after each team was announced and ran onto the court one of the Idaho (sucks) players flipped off the crowd and in true sportsmanship, the Zoo politely started rocketing potatoes at the player and their bench across the court. It looked like an artillery barrage from WW II.

Ah good times.

I can't recall now if it was Idaho's Coach Wayne Anderson or his successor Jim Jarvis, who both had inferiority complexes with poor coaching records, who wanted to have one of the Zoo's ringleaders, Mike Pantalione, arrested, and the ref just laughed.
