Very cool, thanks for posting.
Wish I was around for that season...Some serious punishment in the playoffs.

Noticed a few similarities between #15 and #10.
I wonder if the 2001 or 2009 Griz could hang with this team.

Disagree. It would be touch and go with the 2001 team. The 2009 team would get out-coached.

It's hard to compare over decades but the 2001 team definitely could.

Watching that reminds me of just how good that team was. But what really stuck out more than anything is how good Jason Crebo really was. Fast and with a nose for the ball like I've never seen. And he was just a sophmore that year. I think he is the greatest defensive player we've ever had here, and that is saying some.

95 was my first season as a Griz fan and season ticket holder. I agree with you about Crebo, one of the best football players I have ever seen, just a flat out bull dog! In fact I named my new pup after him that next year!! :thumb:

'95 for me too. Just by luck, a change in careers, I started following, but I think the 2001 team could give the '95ers (DD, Crebo, Douglass, Larson) a run for their money. A few names come to mind, I'm sure there's more...Yohanceeeee, Etu and Huntsberger. Cory Procter & LV were just freshmen! Snyder kicking. Wow, I'd almost forgotten, how much those teams were loaded.

No disrespect intended for a great 2001 team, but '95 had a special quality with DD at the helm. It was expected that we'd win, and they did. It's always fun to guess, but #15 is in the showcase for a reason.

I LOVE every Griz season and team and I was there for the 2001 chipper. But no way that team would of scored enough points to hang with the 95' offense the way it was rolling in the playoffs. The 2011 D would have maybe been good for two less TD's against the 95' offense, but it would still be a double-digit margin of victory.

The '01 defense would have been a big challege for the '95 team, not unlike Marshall. But the two team's QBs are not comparable; DD would have found a way to get it done in spite of having an inferior running game to the '01 team. And the '95 team D was stellar by the end of the season; it was that D that beat Marshall; goal line stand; safety on Pennington. Gave DD the opportunity to pull it out. Gragg was missed in '95; DD was sacked 10 times in the game, as I recall.

It was a heartbreaker when Papa Bear retired after the '95 NC win; his speech at the post game rally was a classic.

I was lucky enough to be at the '95' title game and I agree that the defense was the reason we won that game. That was one of the hardest hitting and hard nosed defenses we have had at Montana in some time. They were on the field a ton because Marshall had a tough D line as well and were on Dave all game long. We struggled offensively in the game for that reason but the D held us in it long enough for Dave to work just enough magic to pull it out (with Andy Larsen's help). When the game was over, I remember thinking I had never seen so many people in one place dressed in green who were so quiet - of course, the relatively small UM slice of the 30,000 seat stadium was quite a bit louder at that point.

It is hard to compare teams from different years but I really think the '95' D and Dave would have given that team a winning edge over the 2001 champs.

Thanks for posting the video. It's good to pay homage every now and again to the King Team. However, I do believe everybody forgets the 2007 team because of the Wofford debacle. 95 is the most important team because it set the tone for decades now, but I think there was a lot left on the field that day in 07. :?

I too was lucky enough to go back to Huntington for that one. Greatest sports memory of my life. We were seated way up in the nosebleed corner of Marshall Stadium, but we made ourselves heard. We went down on the field after the game and got a chance to visit with some of the players.

Then on our trek back to the charter bus, we encountered some Marshall fans in downtown Huntington. They were very cordial and congratulated us. Like most Marshall fans we encountered, they admitted that they didn't think the Griz had a prayer against them in their home stadium. But they were gracious and we did a sweater swap. He swapped his Marshall sweater for my Grizzly sweater. I still have the Marshall sweater 17 years later as one of my favorite souvenirs from that trip.

People like to compare that Grizzly team to the 2001, and even the 2008 and 2009 versions. I can say without hesitation after watching Griz football for 25 years that that 1995 Griz team was not only the greatest Grizzly team ever, it was perhaps the best in Big Sky Conference history and ranks up there with the top 1-AA teams of all time. That was a once in a generation special team.

Nope....

What a ride that was. Fortunate enough to be at every home game that season.

I agree. Crebo was a man amongst boys.

Very cool, really enjoyed that. Lots of blowout wins until the championship. Wow, that's a tough championship having to play on the road vs. 30k opposing fans. Very good team, kudos to the '95 Griz!

On a side note . . . I couldn't even tell the teams by their colors in 1995 vs. today. Georgia Southern (same) and Marshall (pretty close) . . . everyone else has different colors than they do today except maybe EWU. Interesting. Teams should be required to stay the same, love the history of college FB!
