Good insight here from Tom Wistrcill on the game Saturday. He mentions in the interview that on Saturday night he notified the NCAA and requested that the top Missouri Valley officiating crew be assigned to this game since they've dealt with the Fargo Dome and other noisy venues, but the NCAA informed him that the top MVFC crew had already worked a cat playoff game and didn't want to put them on another one. So this weeks officiating crew is coming from the Southern Conference. As we know, that's kind of a pass happy, air raid league itself. So are they gonna let some holdings and PI's go on Saturday? Guess we'll find out in about 48 hours.

Wistrcill did mention that he will meet with the refs before the start of the game to try and prepare them for the environment and what they might be in store for. Good on him for taking charge with this, but I'm skeptical that talking to them beforehand will really do anything though. Guess we'll find out.

I think Vigen and Hauck were notified Monday or Tuesday on who the officiating crew is. I'm sure they have both done due diligence to get a sense of what to expect. But an interesting topic for sure.

It's also interesting that the Big Sky commish would insert himself here. Seems odd to me, considering the caliber of our own officials.

Let the officials come in and do their job and let the coaches/teams adjust.

The commissioner was on our flight from SLC to MSO which got diverted to Helena for first playoff game. First Class. He didn't wait around after we landed. Got off plane and presumably rented a car right away.

I think it's just kind of one of those things where he wants to mentally prepare them for the environment. It's not like he's telling them how to call the game or anything. I can't imagine these guys have officiated a game in front of anymore than 10k people probably.

IDK if you guys have had a Socon crew in recent history, but we had them for our 23 semi game against NDSU and I thought they were good. They let them play and really only called procedural stuff mainly. I think they'll do fine.

I have no idea where the crews have come from....but I agree, I think they'll be just fine. Just seems funny to me that Tom is poking his nose in there.

He wants to tell them how officiating is done in the BS.

Why would he put that evil on anyone?
I have watched a few of these crews from other conferences in playoffs and throughout the year and the Big Sky is better than most. Except when they make a call that has a negative effect on the Griz:) I guarantee whatever happens Saturday one side will be bitching about at least one call. I just hope it is Bobcat fans bitching because that means shit didn't work out for them.

Playoffs...refs typically let the game happen and stay out of it unless egregious...

...I hope. 😃

I think you are right. My one hope is they get on top of the chippy stuff early. There was way too much stuff after the whistle in the last game. Cats should have received at least one PI and got away with it. I am sure the Griz had some as well. Set the tone early so good football is played and no shenanigans transpire.

Once upon a time the SoCon didn't know what a QB or receiver was.
