It's true. California doesn't extend beyond East LA and the Tenderloin District in San Francisco. If you go to those two places, you've seen the entire state and the collective mindset of all 40+ million people.

It's even better when they think everyone thinks the same in a place bigger than they can comprehend. "Oh, California? So you must love Newsom." Born and raised north of Sacramento, with plenty of relatives still there. I guarantee most of them are not big fans of the current state of the state (to say the least). But they have no hope of out-voting the big cities. One (not actually funny) point: Consider the case of the poor smuck who raises almonds (one of many crops that I once helped gather). Even the yuppies think that slivered almonds are cool and elegant over their trout (almost exclusively farm raised ... so forget it). But the growers were suddenly demonized because their crop uses a lot of water.

Another old (very old) California non-joke: Don't laugh if you suddenly see a "Los Angeles City Limits" sign along the road ... not funny, they're after your water. (Some may understand: My mom once did a class project paper about how the demand for water in Los Angeles turned most of the Owens Valley into a near-desert.)

Agreed. Unfortunately, the agriculture example isn't even close to being the only one. Sometimes, you just have to laugh at people at let them think they're correct. Like a toddler who truly believes he's a superhero.
