Here is a little Griz info that I heard a few day's ago, but I wanted to confirm it a little before I mentioned it on the boards. It is sort of a two for one.
I have at least two sources from Oregon and 3 from Missoula now who tell roughly the same story. Believe it or not this is the short version of the story.
Greg Plater a 6-2 high school shooting guard from Salem Oregon. who was on the U of M campus a week or so ago. Plater put up some big time scoring numbers last year- sorry do not have them right now. Unfortunately for Plater he wanted to sign before he left the campus, but the Griz coaches told him they they did not have a scholarship spot available, because they were waiting on word from a Oregon State player who was considering transferring to U of M.. Plater was told that if the Oregon State player does not sign/transfer they promised the scholarship to Plater.
Now the Oregon State transfer. Well who would be the logical choice off the OSU team to transfer to UM..... Missoula own Jack McGillis. That said though, remember OSU also dumped 5-6 players last week so it could also have been one of them. OSU coach Jay Johns also was quoted as late as last week that Jack McGillis would be a key cog in next years team.
I have been told, though, from folks from Oregon and UM and I can confirm that it was indeed Jack McGillis, but the story varies a little from that point. My Oregon contacts are quite confident McGillis will return to OSU next year. I was told while Johns did give Jack permission to talk with Tinkle (and another University) which Jack did, he has told Johns that he will return to OSU next year. From the Griz side I have heard that Jack and Tinkle are still in discussions, and while it appears Jack is leaning towards returning to OSU, nothing has been decided yet.
BTW: One of the reasons I am told Tinkle has not announced any signings yet is because he is waiting the out come of the McGillis possible transfer.
BTW2: There are also other rumors out there that Tinkle is seriously looking at other D-1 transfers from some west coast schools. I will hold off on any schools or players until I get more solid info.
