Recruit Jordan Gregory

I was flipping channels last night and on Altitude came to the closing seconds of the commentary on the Colorado Blue and White all star game.

The color guy was saying nice things about Montana-bound Jordan Gregory. Then the show was over.

I checked on Altitute schedule (I get Bresnan cable) and saw that the game is being replayed in the next few days. I am sorry that I didn't notice when but I set my recorder to catch it.

I watched the game last night. Gregory started at the point for the blue team and played about half the game. There was not much defense played by either side but offensively, I was very impressed by him. He is extremely quick and goes to the hoop fearlessly. He also appears to be a heckuva passer. He actually reminds me of Will Cherry quite a bit with a side order of Derek Selvig passing ability. He had 13 points in the game including a couple of threes.

I am watching the game right now, and am through the 1st half. Gregory looks to take the ball to the rim 1st, and does so with confidence. He is a better passer than Cherry. Defense is hard to judge, as GW said, not much of it being played. He is a solid ball handler, not as quick as Cherry, but stronger upper body. Physically, he should not have to redshirt. It looks he can play as a freshman, and will be a nice addition.

BTW, Montana and UNC with a lot of plugs from the announcers. Another interesting note to this game, for the 1st time ever a freshman played in this game. The kid is over matched physically, but is doing well.

Better news from the 2nd half. He also hit 2 3 pt shots. His shot looked better than advertised, and was solid. As to how that translates in 3%? We shall find out, but he does not have to go back to the basics to find a shot. He is a much better perimeter shooter than Cherry was at the same stage.

I finally got a chance to watch my recording of the Colorado all-star game. I like Jordan Gregory. He seems like a nice kid, he plays defense, had a nice 3-point shot, loves loves loves to drive the key, and has smooth moves. He probably isn't as quick as Will Cherry, but who is? He was certainly as quick as anyone on the court.

He is a very athletic player who often flashes a warm smile.

I may be biased, but I thought he was clearly the best guard on either team. It was tough to see how good the big men were because the teams seldom ran any plays for the bigs.

But, JG has all of the makings of a quality recruit. I say congratulations to the hoop staff for signing him. It appears that he has an outgoing personality which will suit him well in relatively small town Missoula.
