Records that could possibly be broken this year.

After the first game, here’s an update to some of the records that current Griz are chasing.

Career Rushing TD’s
Marcus Knight tied Tony Rice for 6th place in career rushing TD’s at 24. Three more will tie him with Jeremy Calhoun at 5th but then he’ll need 13 more to catch Jordan Canada at 4th. He is also 11th all time in total TD’s with 26.

Career Receiving
After Mitch Roberts “break out” game on Sat, he’s now set himself up to be one of the primary go to receivers on this team. He is now currently 60 receptions behind Mark Mariani for 10th all time in the career receptions list and just under 1200 yards behind Jeremy Watkins for 10th in career yards. If he can manage 80 more throughout the season, that’ll put him in the top 5.

Career Tackles
Robby Hauck is now 25 tackles short of passing Dante for the school record.

Career Sacks
With Patrick O’Connell’s one sack, he cracked the top 10 with 21.5 and he is 7.5 sacks away from the top 5. For now though I think Wagenmann’s school record of 38.5 is safe.

Career Tackles for Loss
Patrick O’Connell had a great start here recording 2 TFL, placing him 11th in school history 20 behind Zack for the record. To break it he would have to match his Jr year totals.

Career Punt Return Average
With only 12 returns in his young career, Junior Bergen is averaging over 17 yards a return which is over 2 yards more then Mark Mariani’s school record of 15.01. Of course he has to have a minimum of 35 returns to make it official so we won’t really worry about this one for a while.

Career Punt Average
Patrick Rohrback showed the the punting duties are in capable freshman hands, or a leg as the case may be. Granted it’s one game but he showed a lot to get excited about, averaging only one yard under Buschini’s school record and two yards more then Mike Rice who is currently 2nd place.
And would add that although Brian was listed as a freshman he was not a True freshman like Rohrbach is. Several more games to go but we have watched Rohrbach at Glacier all four years he played and this game was just like he did at the high school level, so no fluke. No one talks about his abilities to do PAT's and Field Goals. This is why Hauck was so high on him.
I think we have a good stable of kickers this year and going forward looks promising.

Week four is in the books and Robbie Hauck is now the schools all time leading tackler. Only 72 more to go to break the con record set by Ronnie Hamlin from EWU.

Malik Flowers is now 21 yards shy of Rob Schulte’s school kick return yards record.

On an interesting side note, Xavier Harris crossed the 1,000 yard mark for his career and is 88 yards short of passing Marcus Knight. At their current trajectories, X should pass Marcus very quickly. Also, by the end of 2024, it’s very likely Marcus, Xavier, and Ostmo will all finish their careers on Montana’s top 10 rushing yards list. Marcus and Xavier need about 900 more yards and Nick needs about 1400 in the next 2+ years(1+ for Marcus) to put them all past #8 Peter Nguyen with 1985.
