Record breakers and end of career rankings

Marcus Knight finished his Griz career with the single season records of most Rushing TD’s and total TD’s with 23 and 25 from his 2019 breakout sophomore season. Unfortunately with his knee injury essentially cutting his Griz career short, his career marks are not what they could have been. He finished 5th in both rushing(27) and total TD’s(29), which considering he only played a year and some change, is pretty remarkable. He finished 23rd in career rushing yards with 1322 but with Nick Ostmo sitting at 1201 and Xavier Harris at 1088, each with two more seasons to play, Marcus will probably fall to 25th sometime next season.

Mitch Roberts might not have had the Griz career of his dreams but he still complied some respectable career numbers. With 1632 career receiving yards(28th) and 148 receptions(16th), he’s definitely left his mark on Grizzly football.

Malik Flowers is officially the greatest KR in the history of not only Griz football, or the Big Sky Conference, but arguably all of the FCS. He broke Rob Schultes career mark in attempts with 92. His 2,659 career yards leaves him 2nd place all time in the FCS and his 7 TD’s tie him for the FCS record. His 28.9 yards per KR are good for 2nd in the con and 8th in the FCS all time. Gonna be hard to say we’ll ever see another like him. Oh, he also finished 8th all time on Montana’s All purpose yards list with 3,626 yards. Not a bad career.

Of course everyone knows that Robby Hauck’s 482 career tackles make him “the greatest tackler in the history of the conference” and his 21 tackles for a loss are good for 28th all time at Montana. Unfortunately it’s his one career INT that will hang a dark cloud over his otherwise celebrated career.

Patrick O’Connell will go down as one the greatest pass rushers to ever wear maroon and if it wasn’t for an injury riddled 2nd half to his Sr season, he may have finished as the undisputed #1. His 242 career tackles ranks 33rd on the Griz list but his sacks(28.5 for 6th) and tackles for loss(45.5 for 4th) will be his legacy. Oh ya, he also intercepted twice as many balls as Robby.

There may have been some shrouded controversy when it came to selecting Marcus Welnel as the next #37 but he certainly did not disappoint on the field. His 240 tackles(35th), 16 sacks(16th), and 32.5 tackles for loss(12th) will make lasting impressions on the rankings of Grizzly defenders.

After Justin Ford’s amazing Jr season where he led the country in INT’s while setting an FCS record for recording an interception in 8 straight games, not many balls were thrown his way this year. He did manage to add 2 more to his career list which put him in 7th place all time with 11.
