Recap of the game

It was a yawner as anyone could have predicted! We played ISU! Dah! This means absolutely nothing except we feel good for a week!

Since I was out of town and had to miss it I need some info. Any changes on D? How'd the QBs look? Counts? Etc

UM got a lead, played lots of backups in 2nd half. Counts and Kirchner got reps at RB and looked good. No changes on Griz D. Three Griz QBs played and all had good moments.

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Shay Smithwick-Hann threw three touchdown passes Saturday to lead Montana to a 70-24 win over Idaho State.

Smithwick-Hann was 14 of 21 for 205 yards, with two interceptions. Joey Counts and Brett Kirschner each scored twice as seven different Montana players found the end zone.

Montana (4-5, 2-4 Big Sky) scored on its first two possessions of the game with a 9-yard Jordan Canada run and a 17-yard pass from Smithwick-Hann to Sam Gratton. The Grizzlies continued to roll through the first half, scoring four more touchdowns, including a 50-yard run by Peter Nguyen and an 80-yard fumble return by Jordan Tripp, to take a 42-10 halftime lead. The Grizzlies added three more third-quarter touchdowns before turning to reserve players for the final quarter. Kevin Yost was 36 of 56 for 323 yards and three scores for the Bengals (1-7, 0-5), and Rodrick Rumble led all receivers with 102 yards.

Counts had 2 or 3 TDs, Kirsch had 2 TDs, Smithwick-Hann started, passed for I think 3 TDs. Nguyen ran for 2 TDs. I think the only fumble for the Griz today was from Kemp. Yes, he played today. Holms had 4 out of the 6 sacks. Holt had an INT (that the blind refs didn't see!!). Brzeczek had a TD. The D still played kinda soft in the zone, I thought. Jordan Tripp forced a fumble, picked it up and ran 80 yards for a TD. Good practice game for the Griz lol

For those that want to watch the game again, in Missoula, and have Optimum as their cable provider, it'll be replayed at midnight on channel 760.

Griz D did play in the nickle quite a bit on third down...at least a majority of the time. This was promising, especially playing against a team that could not and would not run the ball. Why not last week?

The biggest change I noticed was at qb position. I have always wondered about McKinney's ability to rally the team and to lead the team on the field. It seemed to me that SSH has that ability and is the team leader we have been in need of.

McKinney always seems so sanguine. Neither up or down regardless of the circumstances, a little detached like Obama during the first debate.

Nobody was as bad as obama in the first debate but McKinney did remind me a lot of Justin Roper's leadership. I like McKinney but not sure if he is an on field leader.
