Randy Moss on Marc Mariani

Moss did an interview with a Fox Sports Podcast on Tuesday, at around the 44 minute mark he starts talking about his relationship with Marc and says a lot of pretty cool things about him. Interesting stuff.

Randy and Marc overlapped in Marc's first year with the Titans. Marc has considerable respect for Randy. Says he is very knowledgeable about receiver play and was very helpful. My family and I had dinner with Marc in Nashville at Thanksgiving during Marc's first year with the Titans. I asked him what he thought of Moss, expecting a negative or roll your eyes response. Instead, Marc said Moss was "a great guy". I was surprised. We then talked about Moss for a bit. Name dropper alert.

Never been a Moss fan. 1996 didn't help, but after he admitted he took plays off and "only plays when he wants to" I was pretty much done with him. Other teammates selling out on every play and this prima donna decides he needs to rest for a few plays? screw that!

Things like this are why I was not expecting such a positive response to my question from Mariani.

Very interesting interview. High praise for hard workers and great quotes about Marc Mariani. Even when the interviewer tried to get Moss to throw young guys who didn't want veteran advice under the bus, Moss explained it as "they have their own things that worked to get them to here and don't feel they need anybodies help". Those young guys are probably wrong but it's a mature way of framing that response.

I came away with two thoughts; time matures most people and gives us the advantage of perspective and interviews are so much better than the "sound bites" our media usually provides in terms of understanding a person or an issue.

Still sounds like a strange guy to me. Only a matter of time before he gets invited to visit North Korea.
