Ran Into a Former Griz Player in San Antonio

Was down at the Lifetime Fitness near my house in San Antonio, finally getting off my dead ass and signing up for a membership. I had my cell phone out and laid it on the counter, face down....my cell phone cover has a big "GRIZ" paw logo on it...the dude helping me does a double-take and says "Does that say "Griz"? As in Montana Griz? I played ball there!" Turns out it was Garret Gelker, who played for the Griz in '95 (RS), '96 and '97 along with his twin brother Garth Gelker.

Apparently Garret is a regional manager for Lifetime Fitness, and he was a hell of a nice guy to sit and bullshit with....we talked Griz, Don Read, Mick Dennehy (he wasn't a fan  ), and playing for a national championship (which he got to in '96 after redshirting in '95. He and his brother both left after Dennehy came in and ended their careers at Southern Oregon a couple years later. Said he had lots of Griz stuff in storage that he'd break out and give to me... :thumb: :thumb: We'll see if that comes to pass, but regardless, it was pretty cool.

Do they have a Bud Light bar at that place?

No way in hell you were there for anything else........these idiots might buy that but I know better.

It's always good to see former Griz players or UM grads in general while traveling out of state. But I don't understand why a member of Egriz would report a complaint from a a player that nobody has ever heard of about a former head coach who went 15 - 0 before losing in the title game against Randy Moss and Marshall on the road and who never lost to the Cats. The drop off in interest in this board is really not surprising.

Let me clarify: He wasn't a fan because of the system he was recruited for versus what Dennehy ran....it wasn't anything against Mick personally. It wasn't like he sat and railed on Mick for 20 minutes....and as we've seen happen multiple times over the past 3-4 years since Hauck left, when coaches change, a higher than normal # of players have a tendency to turn over as well, given that they are not under a coach/system/regime that they weren't recruited by...sorry if I made it sound like more than it was.

That's okay AZ, we all know Dennehy tried to run the Griz car off the road. Thank goodness Glenn got here when he did!

You also may take note that it is no longer football season. Just a suggestion.

Way to go. Guessing there will be way more interest in your posts again come....ummm......football season. This happens once a year, every year. Go figure.

Certainly are taking over the world...I was on a cruise a few weeks ago to the Caribbean and there was a guy wearing his griz gear. Sported myself a hat and shirt as well. 2/4000 pretty solid count on that ship!

Web traffic on egriz is down compared to last year. That info is published on the web but it seems pretty obvious.

last year (d)um75 was writing fifty romance novel-esque descriptions of the jordon johnson thingy per day, each of which accrued forty - fifty responses.

Very true argh!

Dirty laundry sells, just ask Gwen. Blech, I throw up a little in the back of my mouth whenever I even think of that name.
