Raise Your Hands If

you've ever played against Notre Dame in South Bend in a national tournament in front of a large crowd on national television. If you raise your hand, let's hear your sport and year.

Congrats to the Lady Griz and their coaches. Huge accomplishment. Hope your experience tonight, and all season, was awesome. Very proud of you. You had an awesome season.

I'm not sure if this counts but I had sex with a woman that graduated from Notre Dame in 2004. I think she would agree that my performance was better then the LG tonight. My experience was awesome but there wasn't a crowd. Oh, and I'm also proud of the LG tonight!!

I had performance anxiety one night with the Notre Dame women's track team. The year was 1983. The sport was the marathon, but I was a sprinter that night.

local pride and selvig-worship overlooks the obvious fact that we have not been ready to win on a national stage since shannon cate left the program, or even be competitive since sklya cisco graduated. and as long as the makeup of the team reflects almost exactly that of outlook, montana (95% white, five per cent native american), and we've had four black players in 37 years (or one every decade!) the lady griz will continue to be embarrassed every time they take the national stage.

before you get on my case, there's a simple answer: increase the recruiting budget! we must find the funds to establish contacts and recruit outside the northwest geographical area in which we now recruit. can you imagine a men's program without the likes of will cherry, kareem jamar, mario dunn and our star recruits, michael oguine and walter wright? c'mon!

i say, either recruit wider and better, or take a pass on the national tournament. it really hurts me, especially given the respect the men's teams have earned in recent years, to see our women win the big sky yet again, only to be flogged once more at the big dance, this time on nationwide tv.

Really? I definitely do NOT see a #7 seed and playing an SEC team in the NIT as any kind of respect whatsoever. JMHO.

Well, 68, I think it might a bit better than a record breaking 47 pt loss in the NCAA or, in the ladies game, a record breaking 11 straight NCAA appearances with no wins. Citay is right, the game has moved past Montana. I went to a high school girls' playoff game here, Chaminade, and could not believe the level of talent and the speed, good coaching and smart, crisp passing they displayed. Granted, Chaminade is probably the best in Calif. but this is the same school that Michael Oguine will graduate from on his way to UM.....It is very hard to watch Big Sky womens' games..slow, predictable, dull. UM has to decide if it is content to be Big Sky champs or invest more to promote better play.Right now, it is what it is...and has been.

Lady Griz lost to a team (ND) that was beating teams in their own ACC conference by an avg of 24, and the BSC Lady Griz only lost by 33.

I was as mortified with the Div 1 Lady Griz shooting bricks (and air-balls) as much as the next guy, in fact, I thought they were going to break the backboard when their shots missed so badly.

But I gotta proudly say that I am very proud of the UM girls for attacking, and playing with a competitive nature (confidence). They didn't back down, they fought hard, and gave it their all. Their effort was outstanding. Overall they made me proud. They just couldn't shoot well, as their coach said after the game:

"17 turnovers isn't the end of the world. We don't get killed on the boards; not the end of the world. Uh, but you know, basektball is pretty simple: you gotta, uh, you gotta make shots at some point or it's just a hard game. They made all kinds of shots, and we didn't make shots, so we got drilled." -- Coach Selvig

30 second shot clock?

It would be hard to beat a NAIA team that shot 62% for the game. The LG have had some shooting problems for the last several games and you aren't going to hang with the nations' #2 team if everything isn't clicking. They had a great season, and are a class act.

Yep, it's called nerves. Both the ladies and men have to recruit better and step up their OOC schedules so that playing ND is not "deer in the headlights" night. It would be difficult to beat ND, period, and I agree that the LG played with heart but the talent gap is HUGE!

If we were allowed to play teams similar to ND's with their high quality players our Griz teams would improve a great deal. Hovering around in the Big Sky and winning the conference just won't be enough for any team in our league....men or women. Our play against better teams is the only way we will improve along with recruiting better players from around the world.

Meanwhile our Griz teams did extremely well this past season and we can be happy for that and proud of both of them!

Both men and women played solid Nationally recognized teams. The women went to a solid holiday tourney...The schedule is not the problem.

...the problem is the place they call montana...
...and kids want to play near family and friends...
...not many have family and friends in montana...

... ...
