Volleyball Raise your hand if....

I have gone to several Griz VB games over the last 4-5 years and have streamed many of their games. If the coaching staff was on year 4, I’d say give them one more. But they have been here for 7 years! 7 years and we finished pretty much dead last this year and got swept 6 games by the Cats….who weren’t very good either! I’m over the fact she is nice and parents like her….win games, finish at or near the top of the Big Sky, amd win a gosh damn tourney game. Nothing in 7 years! They are the definition of “time to move on”.

Nothing against women’s V Ball but at Montana, they are also the definition of a sport that not too many rabid fans are screaming for a coaching change and therefore the AD can afford to sit on this one. She probably does everything else right except win and unlike Montana football, winning isn’t everything with the women’s V Ball team. That being said, I’d love to see a successful volleyball program and honestly, there’s no reason we can’t have one. That is at least not until we get a new coach.

Ok I’ve had it. If Allison Lawrence still has a job at UM after this season, then we clearly don’t care about Volleyball. Her program is pathetic and I’m starting to think she’s not even trying anymore. Reverse swept by Utah Valley in a match we had won, completely non competitive against Boise State, and lost to NAVY.

I really don’t care how much people like her or how nice of a person she is. The fact of the matter is she’s a very bad coach and her program has reached Melanie Meuchel levels of pathetic. They might not win a match all year. If you can’t beat Navy, then who the hell are you gonna beat? I don’t blame the girls. They’re trying, but they’re not being put in a position to succeed. Time for Allison Lawrence to go, even if it means losing Dana and Nic in the athletic department.

What were the issues in the games this past weekend? I don’t anticipate us being competitive vs a program like Boise State anytime soon. Any word on Pyles? Just haven’t seen her as a starter yet this year.

I haven’t got eyes on the team yet this year, so I’m not here to disagree with you, just looking for more information before making my own judgements! I was encouraged at the end of last season so I’m hopeful with this tourney at home this weekend brings more positives to build towards conference play.

The UVU match is the one that really pissed me off. We were up 2-0 and up 22-19 in the third. I remember telling myself if we don’t win the third set, we’re gonna lose. UVU wins six straight points to win the third 25-22 and that’s when I knew we were gonna lose. After that they completely gave up. They looked like they weren’t even trying in the fifth set. Got boat raced.

Yes I don’t expect them to beat Boise, but it’d be nice to at least win a set. And as for Navy, you just can’t lose to a team like that ever. You have to win a match like that or you’re never gonna beat anyone in the Big Sky.

Time for a full 180 on this one? What a roll this team is on.
I will give credit where credit is due. The team has done a very good job of turning their season around. It was a disastrous start, no one can deny that. After the two wins against Oakland and the win over NDSU in Missoula, I was still skeptical considering those aren't the best opponents and we were at home, but since then they have looked really good. I did not expect them to go undefeated at the Indiana State tournament and I definitely didn't think they would win at Gonzaga last night. Now Seattle U to close out non-conference today and I expect them to win. I still wanna see how conference play goes before I'm totally ready to anoint this team as good, but so far I'm eating crow and happy to!

Well said. I'm in the same boat. Glad Allison, the staff and the ladies have put it together this year.

Just an observation. When the VB team is losing, you say its the coach and she must go. When they're winning, you say you're giving credit to the team for turning it around but zero mention of the coach doing her job. Just thought that was intresting .

The coach is part of the team isn't she?

Of course. Just thought it interesting you were so critical of coach specifically when things were bad but then give her zero mention specifically when giving credit to the turn around. Not even a "Looks like Allison got these girls on the right path."

I thought when I said the team has done a nice job of turning their season around that would've implied everybody. Coaches included.

This was the biggest fools gold season of Griz Volleyball ever. Once again, finish middle of the pack and then get bounced in your first game at the conference tournament. Same shit different year. Couldn't even win a set. Only team at the tourney who got swept was us. And I'm sure Lawrence will be retained cause we had the 10 game winning streak against mostly bad non-conference teams, but when it came time to get serious, they did what they always do and came back down to mediocrity. Lawrence has to go, I know she won't though, and that's what is most disappointing. Hell, look at the way the gogriz.com article tries to jazz up a mediocre season. Really sets the tone for the state of the volleyball program.
