Qvale sets Griz single-season blocks record

With his three blocks at Northern Arizona last Saturday evening in Flagstaff, The University of Montana's Brian Qvale established a new single-season record for the Grizzlies.

A 6-11 senior center from Williston, N.D., Qvale now has 72 blocks this year, breaking the record of 71 set by Geraldine native and former Griz standout Daren Engellant in the 1990-91 season.

Qvale's 72 rejections in 23 games this season ties him for the fifth most in Big Sky Conference single-season history with Kelvin Smith of Idaho, who had 72 blocks in 1982-83.

Congrats to BQ!

I know it's not about records for him but it would be nice to surpass ISU's Slim M.'s BSC season record for blocked shots. With at least 7 or 8 games left he could easily do this if he stays on his current pace and stays healthy (knock on wood).

On a side note, Slim is playing for the H. Globetrotters (Bones Millien) with former Griz Scooter Christensen.
