QB play

I prefer Selle too but he missed some open throws today. I love his leadership and ability to check into the correct play. His intangibles are what puts him over the top for me.

"Some"....................he missed a lot of throws, 7 in a row at one time. Still dont see it.

Larson

and "some" made higgins look accurate

I think today is the first time the differences between Selle and Roper were obvious for a whole game. Before we have had glimpses of it. The situation now reminds me of the Ochs/ Bergquist time. Although I do not think Selle is near the quality of Ochs. I still suspect Selle may opt to graduate this year and start his teaching career without playing next year.

I did not get to see the game today....did Roper even get to play more than a couple series? I feel the offense looks very comfortable with Roper too and I do like the way he can throw the ball down the field. Either way, I wish they would try to get the ball to Marc a lot more. I feel he is the most talentd player on the offense and they need to get the ball in his hands more often.

First off - Alpha is a dipshit. Larson.......really?

Second - Roper had a long week, very long. He will be back in form next week.

I did not feel this was Selle's best day as a Griz by any means, but he is very calm under pressure and did make some big throws. To be fair, he badly missed some wide open receivers deep as well. Again, we are very luck to have both, but Selle has to be the guy for now.

And am I alone in the fact that I don't want to see Kemp in there. His time will come, and I appreciate that the opponent has to prepare for the option.............but his time is not now. I'm failing to see where that has been a huge benefit to us to date. Sorry.

Namecalling on this board is against the rules..............

Larson on the other hand could have gone 13-26 with his eyes closed.......dipshit

Nope Loyal, you are not alone. I think the same thing. And I think once Zapata gets done with his red-shirt this year, it will be very hard for Kemp to find the field as a QB.

Are you effing kidding me??? Kemp won't see the field next season because Zapata will be playing in front of him? Yeah, that's why Kemp is seeing time now?? You think the coaches are wasting time putting Kemp on the field now even in a limited capacity because Zapata will be moving in front of him? Where were you guys during the Portland State game??? WTF is wrong with you people? Please sober up before posting nonsense!

First of all both Roper and Selle will be back next season so if you think Zapata will step in as the option QB and Kemp will be on the sideline...you are all smoking way to much! Kemp will be going on his third year in the system. Zapata will have one practice season under his belt. Zapata will also need to put some weight on and find out what it's like to take a hit at the college level. Kemp will have two years and some experience on the field. If any of you fools caught the Oregon/USC game tonight you might be able to visualize what Kemp can do for The Griz when he gets the opportunity. You do not have another QB on the roster that can provide the same type of dual threat. Kemp just needs to get some reps and keep improving which he will. Zapata may throw a good ball but he is no where near the athlete Kemp is.

I have a feeling that it was much windier on the field then what is thought. All QBs were off and didn't Coach Hauck take a time out before they had to change field position to force Weber to kick into the wind? :?:

The bottomline is that Roper is more prone to making mistakes than Selle is. That isn't a knock on Roper. Selle is crazy smart and has had a couple more years to learn the system. Roper probably works hard too, but he is at a huge disadvantage of only being with the program for 3 or 4 months. This is why Selle is winning the job, he does not make mistakes and he never puts us in a bad position. He missed some passes today, but he didn't turn over the ball and he managed an offense that manhandled a good Weber team. Don't know if Roper could have done the same as effectively. I'm excited about Gerald Kemp. Hopefully Kemp is learning as much as he can right now and is willing to put in the work like Selle has the last couple years. I think if he can improve his accuracy that he will be a nightmare to stop.

I'm expecting to see Roper more against Idaho State next weekend, after Selle gets his time.

When Larson was moved to receiver, I was expecting some special plays, such as a swing pass to Larson who then would pass to a wide open receiver. But we haven't even tried anything like that.

Losta you make a good point Roper throws off his back foot which I believe is one reason why he under throws or throws behind his receiver as much as he does, he even does this in pre-game warm up, and as RobGriz says his ball floats due to lack of follow through. Either way he and Selle are not the best we have but they are the best we have with college game experience. Whenever the time is right we have in Kemp an option QB that can run, pitch and throw the short pass and in Zapata it appears we have the precision arm that can throw the long ball and more precise longer passes i.e. sidelines etc.
From what I was told Zapata was highly recruited by Bobby so he saw a future in him that we all may not see at this time, except for glimpses and close study at the pre-game warm ups.

yesterdays game saw all quarterbacks not finding the range 30% of the time whether is was the wind, defensive pressure, bad day or whatever it was all qbs, except for roper, just kidding, kinda.

The thing that impressed me about Selle yesterday was his management of the game!!! He threw it away when he should of!!! He had the clock ticking in his brain and took off running when he should of!!! Some times completions are not always that important. Sometimes just not turning it over is imprortant. Case in point Higgins!!! There are times when he should of just thrown it away to avoid the turnover!! Selle did a Great Job yesterday!!! Great Win Griz!!! I was Very Impressed!!! Keep It Going!!!

Also, he has a great talent of calling audibles at the line of scrimmage. He changed more than a few plays that went for big gains.

Hoopmaster, not sure how much you have watched practice or anything else from San Diego (Kemp's home town. Hmmmmmmm) this year. Maybe your child gave you reports......

However, if you take the time to watch practice, you would see what I am talking about. Kemp is a very good option QB, and a great runner. This is nothing against him. However, his throwing is #4 out of 4 QB's by a long way right now. IMO, Zapata is a much better passer.

That said, I have no idea if he can run the option. I have no idea if he is a good runner. He is very thin, so will have to put on some muscle to be more durable, no matter what he does. I have no idea if he can run the offense effectively. I was just talking about the passing. And in a passing competition, it wouldn't even be a contest. I think Zapata would win an accuracy contest over all 4 QB's on the roster right now.

I hope Kemp improves his passing to Zapata's level. I hope Zapata turns out to be as good of a runner as Kemp. That would be a nice problem to have.

yesterday was not the day to be throwing the ball around, not only because of the wind, but also because Weber was pressuring our QBs pretty well. It was a good day to keep the ball on the ground and pound, pound, pound. Selle is a good choice for that.

IMO, Selle is the best QB for the offense the Griz run. He doesn't get rattled, and I think he's better at dealing with broken plays and such. I have absolutely nothing against Roper -- as a Griz, I wish him only the best -- but he just doesn't seem to manage the offense as well as Selle does. I totally appreciate Kemp as an option quarterback but, to be honest, I don't see him as being anything other than that. Zapata is the QB of the future.

I thought Selle brought his lunch pail to the game and went to work, he did miss some wide open receivers but some of them were off their hands and could have been caught. He managed the game very well, I noticed that he let the game clock roll down below 10 sec on each play to burn time and that is good.
He seemed to check off the field and not get his head stuck on one guy and one guy only like QBs in the past have done, like Cole use to do.
As the O line continues to gel our QBs will be able to sit back and "Selle" popcorn before they throw.
I can't remember, Did Weber even get a sack yesterday??? I know Selle did throw some away to avoid a sack.
