Prospects For This Year

Thanks for your thoughts. I too see Dunn and Wright as interchangeable as well. I thought Dunn may start just to match up and try to take away their best scorer, but I could easily see why Coach would want Wright as a better shooter and all around player.

I could see Moorehead starting for more length with AA and Krslovic depending on match ups. Where do you see Lopez fitting in?

Oops, I knew I was forgetting somebody. Lopez is definitely a candidate to start. But when I saw him in Missoula at the camp last month, his foot was in a boot. I hope it's not a lingering injury.

We'll I really hate to read that! Between his defense, needed size and 3 point efficiency, we need him!

Great thread.

I feel DeCuire will go with a variety of lineups and combinations, depending on opponents. Travis is as confident of a coach as they come. He will take that confidence and creativity up a few notches this coming season, considering how talented and deep the GRIZ are at 1,2, and 3. Also consider, Dunn, Oguine, Rorie, and Wright are all solid to terrific rebounding guards, quick, versatile (can play 1 or 2), and score from all levels. Pridgett has a well rounded game, with more length. Dunn and Oguine have proven to be shutdown defenders. I honestly believe Rorie can be a shutdown defender as well. Wright, is capable of it, but really was not expected to be, or asked to be one, as of yet.

Krslovic will definitely be the main post presence. He will be expected to be the main post defender on the blocks, and rebound. Fortunately, he will not have to score at a high clip. He just has to prove he can be a capable scorer, when called upon. Anderson has the muscle and versatility to log good minutes. Question is, how quickly can he adjust to college ball? I really like what DeJong and Lopez bring to the team. Lopez is versatile on both ends of the court. DeJong, is athletic and has a huge wing span. He really intrigues me.

Gfeller, needs to find offensive consistency. I really hope he has worked on his ball handling in the offseason. He needs to become a consistent threat to score with penetration. That would really add to his game, and make him a very difficult guy to stop. This is his SR year. I hope he can take his game to an all conference level to close out his GRIZ career.

Personally, I feel our guards are too talented to not find a lot of minutes for all of them. Many of you are expecting a 3 guard rotation. I will take it a step further, and feel DeCuire is the coach to take guard rotations a step further. I won't be surprised to see him go with 4 guard lineups frequently this season The GRIZ strength is at guard. North Carolina proved last season how successful 4 guards can be. It became a staple for North Carolina last season. I feel it makes sense for DeCuire to frequently go with 4 guard lineups as well, this season. For me, the question is, how often will DeCuire go with a 4 guard lineup?

I am so excited for this season. Even moreso, knowing there is a good probability DeCuire may go with a strategy we do not see often in college basketball. Could the GRIZ become the mid major team to make a 4 guard lineup common place? We will all see.

Agree with pretty much everything you said except it was Villanova that used the 4 guard line-up. UNC had 2 posts, major size advantage but alas nova out hustled us and killed us on the boards.

Alphonso had an injury in High School that was surgically repaired after his senior season. He hopes to be full speed by the time of the first game. Don't know the details.

North Carolina began using a 4 guard line up just after the new year on a pretty frequent basis. I remember watching a report on it before or during a game last season. Anyway, it was pretty successful when they used it. It was a difficult wrinkle for teams to adjust to and matchup with. Here is one of the articles about it. http://collegebasketball.ap.org/yourdailyjournal/article/no-long-term-commitment-uncs-4-guard-lineup

Possibly inspired by the success the Warriors had against Cleveland in LAST year's championship series. The "Death Squad" featured Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguadala and Draymond Green. Green at 6'7" was the center; Barnes at 6'8" the tallest guy in this bunch. They still use it, except this year Kevin Durant steps in for Barnes. This is gonna be fun (if you're a Warrior fan.)

I could be wrong but I think you would be real had pressed to find any substantial amount of time UNC played with 4 guards last year. Our strength was inside with Brice Johnson, Kennedy Meeks and Isaiah Hicks. That article is 3 years old.

Time flies. I thought for sure i saw a feature on it last season. Then again, could have been mentioned when comparing with Villanova last season. Either way, I feel the GRIZ can do it successfully this season.

Cravens couldn’t stop talking about Krslovic’s defense at the tournament. He sees him as a horror show for opponents.

lol, and anyone takes that seriously...besides you? I love Krslovic's defense, but he has such primitive offensive skills. He has ZERO touch. I hope it has improved, but he shouldn't scare any other coach in this league

Duh … I believe defense is what was mentioned here. And, Cravens sure as hell knows a lot more about basketball than you do. In fact, your lack of bb knowledge is exceeded only by your ignorance of horror cinema which may explain your failure to get the reference and your embarrassing ignorance on two fronts at once … very accomplished.

When I think ZERO touch, I think of Stone Hands Hutchison. He makes Krslovic look like Lou Alcindor. Point being, it could be worse (and I don't share your gloomy outlook of Krslovi's offensive game.)

Just hoping they have all the dents smoothed off the bottom of the rims at Adams Center. Krislo's dented 'em pretty good the past two years.

With losing 15 lbs and a 5" improvement in vertical jump, it sounds like he's been working very hard during the offseason. I expect to see considerable improvement in the lad.

I do too and want to wish him well. He really is a good defender and rebounder but many of his offensive possessions the past couple years have been hard to watch. The bottom of the rim really has felt some of his shots and not many go in when they hit there. Saw he and some of the other players out a couple weeks ago. Looks like a respectful group that gets along well
