Private E-mails?

It's the job of those in charge of press relations and outside communications to work to ensure that communications are accurate, and to anticipate how they will look in the press.

Yes, and there are effective and ineffective ways of doing that. The effective way is to simply be honest, forthright and direct. When you discuss in an e-mail how things might look to the public, the public will naturally be suspicious and they'll wonder what what you're up to. Maybe it's a style thing, but Foley's style ain't my style.

I thought O'Day and Foley came across badly in the e-mail correspondence. Foley is always looking for a way to spin things, and people just don't like things spun.

I thought Foley and O'Day were trying to get things right. The university has said some stupid things, and let some inaccurate things get released. They should have been paying more attention to this all along.

Based on what's out in the public now, there have been no gang rapes involving UM athletes in recent time period we're talking about. If police/prosecutors don't believe there is enough evidence to pursue and/or don't believe the accuser, and a university panel votes 7-0 not to expel a student accused of that, then there has not been a gang rape. A accuser with no evidence (and in this case it looks like there was contrary evidence), and a mischaracterization or misstatement by a dean based on talking to an accuser, doesn't equal gang rape.

Yes, the DOJ is investigating because they accept the findings of the Missoula PD, the DA office, and the UM administration and campus police.

Sometimes you should just not post, because obviously you're not dealing with reality in this instance.

Apparently, almost everyone knows that the DOJ investigation is bogus and politically motived, except you. There is no way the DOJ investigation will find gender discrimination by the county attorneys office in not adequately pursuing sexual assault cases. The office is well-run, has had a majority of women prosecutors, and, if anything, has probably overly aggressive in pursuing certain things involving women. There is no way that the DOJ is going to find fault with the university's recent 7-0 decision not to pursue the matter mentioned above.

How is their investigation "politically" motived (sic)?

With all of the ineptness at the University in handling other cases, I wouldn't be so sure.

Yes, Democrats investigating Democrats, with Tester's ass on the line this fall, is clearly politically motivated.

I know you're a bit of a savant in terms of your corporate law bullcrap, but as I've posted many times before, you're one of the biggest problems with the Griz football program, and sadly, I don't think you have the personal or sociological skills to realize that sometimes it's best to step back and let things play out.

Oh, and stay the hell away from the players, you weirdo.

See quotes from the Missoulian and Jaffe's blog:

"But the unprecedented scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice has others on both sides of the aisle wondering if the review is politically motivated in a presidential election year."

From Bob Jaffe's (one of Missoula's most liberal city council members) government blog:

"One of my colleagues suggested this could be part of the president’s response to the Republican War on Women. An unprecedented DOJ probe into civil rights abuses against women with lots of press could play well in the campaign."

"But the unprecedented scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice has others on both sides of the aisle wondering if the review is politically motivated in a presidential election year. Republican state lawmaker Champ Edmunds shared on social media a KGVO story questioning whether the probe is meant to highlight vice president Joe Biden’s Violence Against Women Act since it’s the first time the DOJ has probed a county attorney’s office."

Nope, people who support the team, including players and coaches, and athletic department are much appreciated and needed. They need and deserve support from a-holes like yourself. The people who are weird are the people like yourself who come on the internet to diss players and coaches anonymously.

So, all of a sudden the Missoulian is a bastion of truth because they fit your agenda? They're making up shit about all the bad stuff in Griz land, but they know for a fact this is politically motivated because one city councilman talked to a colleague? Wow, that's a stretch. You seriously think that the general American public is going to give a rat's a$$ about a DOJ investigation in Missoula, f-ing Montana? Most Americans can't point out Montana on a map, but a story like this is going to sway the voting population in favor of Obama?
