Pressure

Well, we have been at the top of the mountain and now the preeminent FCS program in the west has fallen all the way to the bottom of the hill. How do we turn it around? Pressure, and a lot of it. Rolls Royce should be hearing from every booster, business owner, and fan of the Griz. Money talks and BS walks. Many bars, hotels, convenience stores, retailers, the mall, etc. have made serious cash because of the crowds the Griz brought to Missoula. The cash cow is about to stop producing that sweet milk. (I am not overlooking our other great sports programs by the way - football just brings int the most cash). I will not even start on how this is going to impact the enrollment numbers and prowess of the educational institution that U of M has become. I for one will be making some calls this week. The voice of one man/woman does little, but the voice of thousands will surely have an impact. Rolls Royce keeps making stupid decisions and he will not last long. I encourage you to apply some PRESSURE this week.

Good question and likely the only way he is removed is the BOR. Maybe Rolls has been given enough rope to run the show as he sees fit and he will hang himself. Only time will tell. Until then, his phone should be constantly ringing and his inbox should be full.

Sky is NOT falling...
PIGS are not flying...

The Fat lady is singing though.. The season is over, short of Kickin some kitty tale on Nov 17

Why does a less than stellar football season mean the Missoula economy is going to crumble?

You knee jerk people and shallow band wagon fans are the #1 reason that I quit posting here.

If you want what you describe to indeed happen, Keep posting this crap and being unsupportive.
Want to help... Lift this team up instead of knocking them down.

Then stick to your word and quit posting here. Take your pompom's and moral elsewhere. These people want to brood and lynch the president of the university for a shitty football season. Let them vent. It's actually very comical and entertaining to read.

As for losing money, you don't live here anymore GGG. There is lower attendance at the games and I talked to three restaraunt managers during the Griz-SUU weekend and they said that home game numbers are down this year compared to years past as far as sales go. Griz football is a money machine and one season can and will have an impact.

Dude, you left. Now stick to your #1 reason and stop posting. Otherwise you're just wafflin'. Later.

Copper....Who do you think has the courage to terminate Engstrom? I wonder if anyone?

Uhhhh....how ignorant do you have to be to not realize that a university president's performance is not evaluated based on well the football team does? In fact, I'm pretty sure that item is pretty far down the list of job performance factors. Don't think Royce is gonna be shown the door because the Griz can't win football games and won't be going to the playoffs. Just sayin'...

You are absolutely correct that he will not lose his job due to the football teams record, but when the money does not come in to support other sports and enrollment numbers drop - people start paying attention. The Scats president obviously gets how intertwined the football team is with the university as a whole. Something you apparently are to fing dumb to understand. Go back to your litter box!

I can see some declining business due to the GRIZ performance. With my job, I deal with a lot of businesses, in every industry, in setting up, and canceling accounts. The main reason I get from restaurants for canceling, the economy is killing their business. The main reason get for not setting up business, they need more affordable services, they can only afford so much in this economy.

Most families and individuals are cutting out going out to eat and/or drink to help save money. Myself, and most everyone I know, have done this as the 1st thing to help their own finances. Blaming the GRIZ for this, is outrageous in this time and age. Part of having a successful long term business, is proper planning. Sounds like to me, a few too many Missoula businesses did a lousy job planning for a down swing in the economy. Those managers and owners should be bitching about their lack of planning, not at the GRIZ for a bad football season.

A typical Missoula-centric response. You miss that a very substantial portion of season ticket holders and game attendees travel large distances to the games and are not Missoula locals. These are the folks that are filling the hotels and restaurants, not the locals. When it can easily run $800 for a weekend for a couple, the level of fun enters the decision process as much as the economy. The level of fun is directly proportional to the Griz performance. This just in, we don't get our fun just from the Missoula experience,

I’m not sure if Rolls Royce should be fired because of the adverse economic consequences of a down year for the football team, but he damn well should be fired for his knee jerk firing of two good people. He claims he fired them because he wanted to go in a new direction. Well, he then hires a head coach from within and an AD from within. We can probably agree those action are not consistent with going in a “new direction.” His actions have shown great incompetency that directly cost the U about a half million bucks – not to mention the indirect costs to the U and Missoula. Yes, he should be fired and the sooner the better.

I wonder how much local business revenue as well as UM revenue will be down this year ad a result of no home playoff games. Even though the U bid high to host games, they had to have been making a nice sum of money (book store sales, concessions, advertising).

Now that complaint is legitimate, and should be the focus if business owners are to bitch. Nonetheless, business is not a given. Bad times should be planned for to stay in business. Lack of preparation is not the fault of any program.

President Engstom, can care in the least of your laundry list describe above, his job is education and the administration of the university.

However, the AD whom is responsible for the athletic program was terminated, for reasons never explained other than " make a change " that left the football program in president Engstrom's hands, so firing the " Coach of the Year " would be added to "making a change ".

Now the football program has what it has, and will continue to have it for the rest of this season and the next.
Your laundry list of victims will have to endure, because the "making a change " is in place, and perhaps that what happens when a zealot is in charge.

Much like the CHANGE - and we know how well that is working out.
