As noted on another thread, there are 29 FCS versus FBS matchups coming up next weekend. Eight of those have FCS-ranked teams in them. So some upsets should be possible.

Ranked FCS Teams (ranking in brackets) at FBS:
[5] Jacksonville State at #5 LSU
[7] Charleston Southern at #4 Florida State
[10] Illinois State at Northwestern
[11] McNeese State at LA Lafayette
[16] Portland State at San José State
[20] Youngstown State at West Virginia
[23] North Carolina A&T at Kent State
[25] North Dakota at Bowling Green

Other games of possible note (alphabetical by FCS team):
Eastern Illinois at Miami (OH)
Elon at Charlotte
Maine at Toledo
Southern University at Tulane
Stony Brook at Temple
Tennessee-Martin at Hawai'i

I think there could be a couple in there. There's also going to be a bloodbath or three.

Tennessee-Martin could definitely beat Hawai'i. The Rainbow Warriors have had a couple tough weeks, and I can see UTM pulling out a close one.

Interesting. I do not see five or more possible upsets among this week's games. But it sure would be neat if it happened. :o

We have five FCS-FBS matchups that start at 10 o’clock this morning. Amazingly, all of them appear to be on TV somewhere. (The channels listed are sometimes blacked out in certain areas, so you have to watch for that.) However, it looks like the Lamar at Houston game is not on live, but comes on as a replay at 1:30 or thereabouts. Since that’s hardly likely to even be close … big deal.

Unfortunately, only one of the matchups seems to have even an outside chance at an upset. Howard is pretty bad, but then, so is Rutgers. They went 4-8 last year, with one of those being against FCS Norfolk State. The others were against Kansas (winless last year), Indiana (by a FG) and Army … which had a combined 8-19 record. This year, Rutger managed to get creamed by Washington, 48-13. So … Who knows?

Anway, here are the early games of interest (regionally interesting Wyoming-Nebraska game thrown in for good measure). Listings are DirecTV channels, with network base in parens.

Lamar at #6 Houston --- 639, replay 1:30
Howard at Rutgers --- 610-1 (BTN)
Indiana State at Minnesota --- 207 (ESPNEWS)
Nicholls State at #9 Georgia --- 611 (SEC)
Prairie View A&M at #20 Texas A&M --- 611-1 (SEC)

Wyoming at Nebraska --- 209 (ESPN2)

Nicholls St just took the lead over Georgia late in the 3rd quarter. 14-13!

Not to be ... Georgia won 26-24, running out the clock at the end. Not going to help that #9 ranking for Georgia, even if they did squeak out a win.

Meanwhile, Youngstown State leads West Virginia 14-7 with about 10 min left in the first half. The game is on DTV 659, for those of you who can get that.

One upset so far: Illinois State over Northwestern, 9-7.

Could have had two, but UND went for a 2-point conversion (and a win) against Bowling Green with like 13 seconds remaining. They did not make and lost 26-27. Damn! But OT on the road is tough, so ... Why not?

Had it too...ball hit receivers hands in the corner.

Wish this was on somewhere: North Carolina A&T vs Kent State, 33-33 ... now in 4th OT (neither team made its required 2-pt conversion).

Edit: Kent just kicked a FG, 36-33 ... A&T scores a TD ... upset, baby!

OMG!

Who would have thunk it. NC A&T won at Kent State with a TD over FG in quadruple OT, 39-36.

That makes three FCS over FBS upsets this weekend, to go with the Griz upset of #3 UNI ... How SWEET it is!

Now up to a total of 7 upsets of FCS teams over FBS. Could have been two or three more if some breaks go the right (i.e., FCS) way. :)

Of course, as this STATS item suggests, it could have been fewer if some breaks had gone the wrong way. ;)

Three more FCS teams - North Carolina A&T, Illinois State and Eastern Illinois - defeated FBS opponents on Saturday, bringing the total to seven through two full weeks of the college football season.

All three teams won in down-to-the-wire fashion.

North Carolina A&T, ranked 23rd in the STATS FCS Top 25, capped off the night by notching a 39-36 win at Mid-American Conference member Kent State in four overtimes. It was the MEAC school's first win over the FBS in four games.

Tenth-ranked Illinois State slipped past Big Ten member Northwestern 9-7 on Sean Slattery's game-ending 33-yard field goal.

Also, a MAC school fell to unranked Eastern Illinois from the Ohio Valley Conference. The Panthers scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes, including Mitch Kimble's 7-yard pass to Devin Church with 56 seconds remaining, to drop Miami of Ohio 21-17.

Next Saturday, top-ranked North Dakota State is among the FCS teams playing against the FBS, visiting No. 16 Iowa.

Just made a quick count, and it looks like there are only 12 FCS-FBS matchup this coming weekend.
