Portland State Football troubles

Was listening to the GRIZ pregame and I heard them mention that Portland State was looking into dropping football, then found this article about how the administration is not helping them out much. Hope it keeps football but if they dropped it then the Big Sky could go to a split conference and have a championship game.

It would not surprise me in the least that PSU drops football. These guys waste so much money on a firm that markets football to the community, but you never see ANYTHING. The president at PSU makes Engstrom look like the second coming. If I could predict the future, I would say that PSU drops football in the next few years. No student cares. No faculty cares. The administration most certainly does not care. Its one of the biggest cluster f-ks I have ever seen.

How does PSU's attendance and interest compare to DIII Lewis & Clark? I think I remember L&C having really good support, but it might have been another DIII.

tough for a mediocre football program to captivate students' interests when they live in a city with the nation's highest per-capita strip club ratio, eh?

LC, Linfield, Pacific, and Willamette all get about 2k per game. I don't know how many people go to the George Fox games, but they are new this year. Portland State averages around 5,000. However, going to those games, it feels like a lot less. There is literally no information about games, game times, schedules, anything. There wasn't even a team poster this year. My high school had a team poster. Portland States hired marketing firm has made zero ad effort for any PSU athletics. The Oregonian doesn't really report on PSU ball, but there is no interest anyways, even though there are approximately 23,000 undergrad students. While many are non-traditional, the majority are traditional college students, more than half are full time students, many of which live on campus. With over 156000 alumni, 65% of which are in the PDX area, it has a considerable alumni base. That there is no pride or support is quite sad. Quite a few students don't know there is a football team.

Living in Portland, working 10 blocks from the campus and stadium it's clear that nobody here cares about PSU football. I remember seeing one billboard about three or four seasons ago downtown, but that has since been taken over by Oregon or Oregon State ads. There are no television, radio, newspaper, social media advertisements anywhere to be found. The stadium is accessible to a lot of people, they sell beer at games even, and they still can't get more than 2000-3000 at a game.

They couldn't have a championship game.. runs into the playoffs.

Would a championship game be possible if the conference played one less out of conference game?

Probably, but then all the other teams that didn't make it to the Championship game will not play a full 11-12 game schedule depending on the year.

Maybe have a consolation game(s) to see who will get the at-large bids?

The only way to have a BSC champ. game is if the season started a week earlier and all the coaches/AD's agreed to give up their bye week. Not going to happen.
