With five ranked teams going down yesterday, there are bound to be some “interesting” changes in the next TSN poll.
The hardest part is to guess how far the two top-10 teams that lost will drop. Northern Iowa lost a squeaker (19-20) on the road to the #25 team, so you might think they should not drop too much. That could be the case, but … that losing record sticks out like a sore thumb. (Yes, I know two of those losses were to FBS team, but one of those was to pathetic Hawaii, which has not won any other game.)
Meanwhile, SDSU got blown out (45-10, and it wasn’t that close) by the #22 team. I’m betting they will drop a lot.
As a general rule, teams ranked at the bottom of the poll (20-25) are already on thin ice, since not many poll points separate them from the “Others receiving votes” block. Therefore, I moved some of those who were close in last week’s voting up to replace the three losers. However, two of the losses were by just a FG and the other by just one TD, so perhaps one or more of them will survive. If I had to pick one of the three, it would be Tennessee State, which lost by just a TD on the road at SE Missouri State.
