Playoffs to Expand to 12 Teams

That sucks. I really wanted the G5-FCS merger to happen. I really thought that was our best route to being relevant at the next level. That said, a 12 team playoff will be pretty cool and I'll be more excited to watch the FBS with an expanded playoff field now.
I don't think these two things are mutually exclusive. It's still precisely where the winds are blowing the whole college football landscape towards.

Agree... This is only going to widen the divide between the FBS "haves" and "have nots"

Those "have nots" will get sick of lack of money games and ZERO chance to be in the playoffs.

IE 99.9% of the playoff teams will be from the power 5

Quote from the story...
"The rankings of the teams will continue to be determined by the CFP selection committee, which will remain largely unchanged."

IE if your not in a G5 conference... you are screwed!

Exactly. You'll see a 10-2 SEC or Big10 team ranked ahead of the wannabe G5 schools in the polls based upon strength of schedule. I'm afraid it'll accelerate the Super Conferences breaking away from the NCAA and taking their basketball and non-revenue sports with them leaving all the G5 and top tier FCS schools fighting over the crumbs that fall off the table as far as television monies.

*Edit. I also just read the Big 12 is renegotiating their television contract. See what time Wazzu, Oregon State and Washington games start tonight! One at 7:30 and two at 8:30. How many television sets in this country are going to be watching those games?

The most recent article I've read states Washington and Oregon are as good as gone and for whatever reason Cal and Stanford are also headed to the Big 12.

Do you support reducing the NCAA basketball tourney to say 32 teams too?

Tournaments aren't just to find the team that is going to win. It's also about incentive/reward for teams during the season, to get to the tourney. It's about competition and upsets in the early stages. I don't see what the number of scholarships has to do with it; each team has many more players. There's no requirement to play with just your scholarship players. I agree that seasons are too long now, but that has nothing to do with the number of scholarships. It's not about making money for the NCAA.

In the FCS playoffs, I don't have a magic number, but what we have how is fine with me.

No, I'm good with the basketball setup. I'd prefer the "old" FCS model for FB with 16 teams and the championship played in December.

With the logic expressed above, the NCAA should eliminate the bottom 36 teams in the tourney. They've never won the tourney. UM should never have been invited to the tourney over the years. Winning the conference should just be about winning the conference, and nothing else.

Yeah. That seems to be the case. The whole, “but they don’t have playoffs” argument against moving up has officially ceased to hold water.

The new argument is that we shouldn’t move up because that would spell the end of Montanans on the roster  it never ceases to amaze me. Some are just so dead set against progress and taking risks when it comes to the program.
If Montana kids can’t make the Griz, there are many other schools for them such as Montana Tech, Western Montana.

The playoffs will expand at the very LAST possible moment. Money and power is involved, and where there is money, and power, there is corruption. Too many more palms to grease first.

Watching APP State host a P5 in a packed stadium…..don’t they know you can’t pack a stadium without a majority of the athletes being in state kids… ..wonder if they regret moving up and progressing as a program…..I bet they wished they could be hosting Northwestern state today rather than a P5 so they could guarantee a win
