Play COUNTS!!! And other things matter too!!

Yes, play #21 Counts!!! He is a RB! Strength, power, agility, and speed! The Canada and Van hype is getting old. Not knocking #26 and #8, but there is a #21 who could really help this team's success. He produces when given opportunity. Burned his red shirt last year for this? Too few carries thus far this season for all he could do for this team!! Counts is a burner and bruiser. Did Griz Nation see his run after his jump over the pile at the goal line- quite the 100 yd sprint, the only player to make the effort. He's an efficient, productive, and aggressive runner without dancing around - simplicity is beauty in itself. He plays from the heart not out of desire for personal glory, but for his team-his brothers. The more carries the hotter the flame. Even the coaches acknowledge you need the carries in practice and game time to bond and gel with your offense. They also said you need 3 RB's ready at all times. Heard fans at the NAU game yelling play Counts. There were plenty of plays Counts should have been a part of- a game plan with #21 in it to make a difference, put points on the board. After this blunder of a game, I really don't get it.

There is a lot of talent and potential on this team including #21 and others. This loss is a wake up call I hope - for players and coaches. Time for players to step up and more importantly time for coaches to acknowledge those who step up now and those who have been stepping up all along- these players just might be the answers the Griz have been looking for. I realize it's only 1 loss. But this team is coming out of an emotional and devastating 2012 season, and this could easily snowball.

The players and coaches owe it to themselves to set aside where they could have played, what great offers they had, where they came from, what all honors they have been awarded, and look at who and where they are now. Every player has a story. Every player has talent or they would not be playing at a collegiate level. The question they must ask themselves now is who do I want to be as an athlete for myself and my brothers and coaches. The coaches are now challenged to keep eyes wide open as to how to use these talents to the greatest benefit of the team's success.

Of course just my opinion, and over the years of watching and learning, it's funny how sometimes remembering and opening our minds and eyes to the simplicities of something, like the game of football, can bring coaches and a team back to center and on the road of success.

Open for comments and criticisms.

We can't win without excellent offensive line play. Yesterday's play was very poor. I would suggest that coach consider putting the starters on the bench until they decide to block. Otherwise, our backs will never be successful and JJ will continue to be sacked. Bottom line: The Griz can't win against a good team like Northern Arizona if the offensive line play doesn't show immediate improvement.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Thus the rest of my comments. #21 is just an example of one of the arsenals in the closet. Know there are many more. Applying your suggestions is fundamental to stepping up the team's game. Who steps up to get the job done. Makes everyone better players and more weapons for coaches and play calling. Got to use those weapons too. From OL to Kicker, accountability to get the job done. Looking forward to seeing improvement. After all no one likes to lose. Even if there are other losses it is how the team continues to challenge themselves, keeps trying, and never gives up, that defines character and the determination to be successful in their lives-the bigger picture. They can be proud. Griz Nation should be proud.
Enough of my philosophy. Anyone could write a book to cover all the whys, hows, ifs. There are so many to the loss of this game. Trust and confidence in players and coaches that they will overcome. Go Griz!

Ok now. This thread sure came out if "left field".

Thank you Mr. Counts

If I was, I would take that as a compliment. Any player's parents should be proud at what their son has accomplished thus far in life. All of the parents should be proud, not just Mr. Counts. Your comment is short sighted, missed the bigger picture/message. But that's ok. Always working on my communication skills that I guess may have been deficient with this post. I asked for feedback, so thank you, I will try to do better next time.

I actually thought we should try Counts in that goal line situation behind our big FB. Rolling out to the short side is always a bad idea near the goal line in my opinion. There isn't enough room to move and buy time. We got out-coached. Plain and simple. The turnovers weren't the coaches fault though.

Kick 3 and be down by one score.. We looked desperate in that situation.

Agreed. I meant on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down. If we didn't score with the bruisers, then kicking was a way better idea.

On 1st and goal, didn't the ball go right through Jone's hands?

I think that is what I recall. We should be able to get 6 yards with our jumbo package with little to no risk.

My biggest questions from the NAU game have nothing to do with personnel, but coaching

(1) where were our quick short pass routes such as hooks, drags, ins, outs, curls, slants? Most of the primary routes were deep patterns, most outright fly routes. Hell would help to add in a post or flag route too.

(2) Why send your great blocking FB in motion wide when your OL needs the help of his blocking?

Nothing the on the offensive play calling made sense against NAU.
